OMG I Spot a Trend! - Bold Yellow
Tuesday, 1 July 2008
Bright yellow dresses are popping up on celebs all over the red carpets this season. Two of my top 5 best dressed celebs at the recent BET Awards wore yellow, and Niecy Nash (above) wore a strapless lemon Nicole Miller gown to the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
She looked elegant in the fitted, clean cut gown with a small train, but the hair and make-up leave a lot to be desired!
The colour looked so wonderful on her however that it took attention away from her style mistakes.
There's a yellow to suit everyone whether it be lemon, canary or mustard. Just try so on and find one to suit you and you'll soon be feeling bright and summery!

Most of the American readers won't have heard of British television presenter Alexa Chung, but you've still gotta love her quirky, typically British style!
Whilst leaving the JC de Castelbajac Flagship Store Launch Party in London yesterday she sported a navy blue pinafore dress layered over a pretty, floral white top with wide shoulder straps.
She clearly loves her accessories, from the striped blue and white cardi, her black heart pendant, her bright orange bag and her flat navy pumps.
This girl knows how to put an outfit together and look casually chic!

Whilst most of the celebrities outfits at the OP Advertising Campaign Launch Party on Tuesday were nothing special, January Jones was actually looking very stylish.
The actress and former model wore trendy flared blue jeans with a slightly high-waist. I like this kind of high-waisted jeans because I feel like I could pull them off! The flared leg balances out the hips (not that January has any!) and they're not too high to be unflattering!
She topped off the look with a gorgeous Victorian style sheer cream blouse with lace details.

A post pregnancy Halle Berry looked relaxed and lovely when she was spotted by paps at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills last Thursday, which incidently was my Grandfather's 75th birthday. Happy Birthday Gramps!
The proud mother wore a floral blue, satin maxi dress, embellished under the bust. She teamed the bright, girly dress with simple and comfy black flip flops and a long silver pendant.
I can't wait til we finally get to see little Nahla Ariela Aubry! She's obviously going to be soooooo beautiful with the parents she has!

So last month I made my very first trip to California for the Coachella Music Festival in Indio Palm Springs; and was I in for a treat!
The weather was boiling, the music was eclectic and the fashion.....so bohemian chic! I LOVED it!
So here's the run down of my best dressed artists at the event:
Kelly Osbourne, rock royalty born and bred, showed up on stage during the last few minutes of Mark Ronson's amazing set! I went nuts when she came on, and she looked so striking in a black and white hound tooth mini dress. It was a brave choice with Kelly's porcelein skin, jet black hair and red lipstick. She added a little cropped leather jacket just to remind us that she is a rockstar!
Another gorgeously stylish and porcelein skinned rocker was Jenny Lewis, the lead vocalist for one of my favourite bands Rilo Kiley. Jenny was adorable in high waisted short shorts, with a navy and white nautical top. She's got so much energy on stage and I love her heavy fringe and look curly hair.
Brit newby Kate Nash and the quirky Sia both sported one of the hottest trends; waist belts!
Kate wore a bright red version to add some funkyness to her check blue, floaty prairie dress.
Sia on the other hand, who was certainly the most smiley person I saw at the whole festival, wore her belt in the seasons most popular colour - purple. She wore it over a cute little denim waistcoat and a fashionable tie dye dress in differnet shades of purple and lilac.
And now to the best part! DUFFY!
The Welsh soul singer was amazing considering Coachella was her first ever festival. Her acoustic rendition of Syrup and Honey gave me tingles!
The pint sized star also looked great in a cool little empire waisted denim dress and simple flat brown peep toes.
And to top off my fabulous festival experience.......Duffy signed my CD! I was so excited and nervous to meet her that I forgot to mention to her that I speak Welsh (as does she, it's her first language)!
For those who care there's a picture below of me meeting Duffy and her signing my CD. She said she loved my leopard print headscarf (from Primark and really cheap for those in the UK).

It wasn't just the performers who were stylish though. Everywhere you looked there were fabulous women showing off their style!
Big trends were floaty little boho dresses, short shorts with cute tops and waistcoats, skinny head bands tied around the outside of long wavy hair in the style of Nicole Richie and of course, big oversized sunnies!
Anyway, I recommend everyone go to Coachella next year because it was amazing. It'll depend on how good next year's line up is though.

Tuesday, 13 May 2008
Like bright bold colours? There were plenty to be seen at the Costume Instirue Gala last week!
My favourite use of colour was Eva Longoria's trendy plum coloured Marchesa Fall 2008 gown. The colour is in style right now and I loved the strapless style combined with glamorous ruffles. She should lighten up on the troweled on make-up though!
52 year old, supermodel Iman attended with hubby David Bowie looking radiant wearing a bold satin red gown from Dolce and Gabbana. The dress gathered on the hip with a jewelled detail giving it a truly dramatic and elegant look.
I also love love loved the colour of actress Kate Mara's canary yellow Zac Posen Spring 2008, one shoulder, ruffled gown. Clearly ruffles are a huge trend now.
The dress also had a belted waist to give it shape and a dramatic train, perfect for the Costume Institute Gala. Her make-up was simple and flawless with well defined eyes.

Monday, 12 May 2008
Take note - different shades of soft blues were seen on some of the most fashionable stars at the Costume Institute Gala. This is definitely a trend to watch!
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer looked feminine in an ice blue, ruffled, Valentino Spring 2008 Couture gown. I loved her sparkly silver clutch but her orange make-up was a little scary!
Up and coming fashionista Camilla Belle wore one of the most popular designer's of the night; a stunning one shouldered, turquoise gown from Armani Prive's Spring 2008 Collection. The tiered effect almost looked like waves - gorgeous!
My favourite blue gown though was Jennifer Lopez's one shouldered blue gown with an exquisite jewelled neckline. She also wore beautiful jewelled accessories.
I love that she's embracing her new, softer, figure now that she's given birth to her twins. It's nice to see a celeb not hung up on getting every single muscle toned and tightened right after having a baby!! And for once, she got her hair and make-up right and didn't go over the top.

The ever stylish Melissa George attended the 14th Annual Practical Magic Ball in NYC yesterday. That sounds fun!
The actress, who always has impeccable taste in clothes, looked, uhm....magical, in a chic black, one-shouldered dress with satin bodice.
Everything else; make-up, accessories and hair, were elegant and simple.
She can do no wrong.......as of yet!

No not Eva Longoria (though I'm sure many men would disagree!) - I'm talking about that ice cream! Yummmmmmm.
Pint sized actress Eva is the new face (and voice, if you've seen the advert) of Magnum Mayan Mystica ice cream.
The Desperate Housewife posed at the Villa Magnum in Cannes on Monday to promote her new endorsement, looking very well put together in a strapless ice blue mini dress with flared skirt and fitted bodice, and strappy cream sandals.
The prom style dress is very much back! Many celebs like Geri Halliwell and Agyness Deyn have started wearing the style that was last really popular around 4-5 years ago when I was in my last year of school, and Betsey Johnson's Spring 2008 runway collection featured many prom dresses.

In case you weren't convinced that the 50s big skirt, fitted top silhouette was really in fashion, here's another celeb sporting the look recently!
This time it's Marchesa co-designer, Georgina Chapman who attended the New York Premiere of George Clooney and Renee Zellweger's new movie Leatherheads.
Appropriately, the fashion designer chose a gorgeous black leather coat with a full skirt which she wore with black tights and purple suede, platform, peep toes.
To finish it all off she had on an oversized ring. This jewellery look has been popular for a while now and shows no signs of going away!

The stunning Italian actress, Monica Belluci looked radiant in a strapless black foral Dolce and Gabbana Spring 2008 maxi dress and black shrug at a Photocall for her new movie, Shoot 'Em Up in Rome Friday.
Floral is a big Spring trend, as are maxi dresses and frills. This dress ticks all the boxes!
Monica really is beautiful, but how old do you think she is??
She's 43!! Looking good!

So it seems Lauren Conrad, our favourite "reality" TV star, has a bit of a signature style of late. This can be a good thing, but can also get boring if you keep wearing the same thing over and over (Lindsay. Lohan. Leggings.)!
Lauren loves leggings, little tops, and oversixed shades finished off with a ponytail and she wears the look for any occassion!
The Hills star looked chic in L.A. Friday wearing shiny leggings, a pretty printed cami, and platform slingbacks. She accessorised with oversized black sunnies and a sleek low swept ponytail. She looks so glam!
The following day she wore a more casual version of the look to walk her dog. She looked comfy in a grey, v-neck, tank top, leggings and black mocassin boots. Again she had her oversized shades on but this time her hair was in a high, sporty looking pony.
Can't wait for the new episode of The Hills this week!!

Tuesday, 25 March 2008
One of the big fashion trends for Spring/Summer 2008 has to be ombre prints.
Adorable actress Adrianne Palicki attended the Paleyfest in Hollywood last Thursday looking fresh and summery in a floaty, blue ombre printed dress.
Worn with just white satin peep toes and a casual bob, the look is very sweet and girly.

Links to this post Email this postOMG I Spot a Trend! - Best LBD's of the Week
Little black dresses never go out of style, especially if you modernise them slightly to fit the trends of each season. Here are my favourites as seen on celebs recently!:
Thandie Newton wore a high-necked, lace, black dress to the NYC Premiere of her new movie, Run, Fat Boy, Run last Thursday. The floral lace and the mini style with black tights are very trendy aspects as is the waist belt, whilst overall the look is classic, especially with Thandie's simple make-up and chic updo.
Also updating her LBD was Lauren Conrad, who wore a stylish one-shoulder, assymetrical black dress to the Late Show with David Letterman in New York City last Tuesday. Lauren looked simple and elegant and accessorised with black peep toes. For fans of The Hills like myself, the new episodes with the trip to France and Brody's new girlfriend (but not with Kristin Cavallari :() started last night!
Melissa George proved how sultry black can be in a fitted basque style pencil dress with satin side panels and patent court shoes, that she wore to the screening of Stop-Loss last Thursday. I do like the natural look but I think the glamorous dress needs a little more glam in the hair and make-up departments.
Finally we have Lucy Liu wearing the simplest LBD of all to the 2008 UNICEF and Esquire Nationwide Tap Project in NYC last Wednesday, a black v-neck which could eaisly transition from season to season. Lucy gave the look some edge with the most gorgeous animal print pumps ever! Love them! I also love her side-swept updo.

Links to this post Email this postOMG I Spot A Trend! - Black and White Dresses
Wednesday, 19 March 2008
Jay Godfrey featured some gorgeous black and white dresses in his Spring 2008 Collection, one was even worn by starlet Kristen Bell. Since then, many other starlets have been photographed in a range of little black and white dresses and it's beginning to become a trend!
Katie Holmes wore a black and white check draped Alexander McQueen dress to the Essence Magazine Luncheon last month. She added a dash of subtle colour with purple peep toes and looked uber sophisticated.
Ashanti was at 106 & Park last month where she wore a v-neck black and white check dress. The peep hole and the pencil shape of the dress made it look sexy as did the black platforms and waist belt. I love how her hot pink lip gloss pops next to the monochrome outfit!
Showing that check isn't the only wear to do the black and white dress trend, Australian actress Rose Byrne wore a feminine black and white print dress to the Red Bull Season Launch Party in Melbourne, Australia last week. This is my fav black and white dress! It's so floaty and pretty.
I love love love her metallic pink skinny waist belt and matching clutch not to mention her gorgeous round toe black pumps. I wish she would have brushed her hair though!
Cold Case star Kathryn Morris wore a printed black and white dress earlier this month to the Alliance for Children's Rights Awards Gala. The shift dress had an inbuilt black buckle belt detail around the waist. Kathryn brightened up the look with red lipstick and matching pointed red courts for a bold look.
Finally, Naomi Watts wore a strappy black and white dress whilst appearing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last week and looked super stylish. The A-lister accessorised with a skinny black waist belt and gorgeous strappy black shoes. She kept everything else simple and looked beautiful!
I love the black and white trend and I think Rose and Katie pulled it off best by managing to make it look soft and chic.
What do you think of the trend??

Links to this post Email this postThe Lauren Conrad Collection - The Verdict!
Wednesday, 12 March 2008
Lauren Conrad, previously famous for being the star of Laguna Beach and The Hills, yesterday debuted her new fashion line at L.A. Fashion Week. The budding new designer looked cute in a strapless tiered black dress and black peep toes.
She was joined by The Hills co-stars Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port, Laguna Beach co-stars Lo Bosworth and Kristin Cavallari (yes really!) and boy-toy Brody Jenner and his side-kick Frankie Delgado.
So Brody and his two exes Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari (mortal enemies since Laguna Beach) were all in one room? And no drama kicked off?! Maybe these guys are growing up!
When I asked in a poll a few weeks ago if you thought she deserved to show her line at Fashion Week, around two-thirds of you said no! So now The Lauren Conrad Fall 2008 Collection has been shown, what do we think?
Her sister Brianna (of Laguna Beach Season 3) stated that the strapless cream dress (above left) was her favourite item. It was cute, but personally I adored the floral black and white pencil dress (above middle). Check out Lauren wearing a maxi version of this dress recently in my GirlzNight article!
I also loved the black lace accents she used on many items including an LBD with a black lace skirt (above right), and the French widow inspired head wear.
There were a lot of flattering jersey style items in autumnal colours like olive, plum and burgandy. Some of my favs were the burgandy off-the-shoulder top, olive dress with plunging neckline and chic plum coloured belted cardigan.
Like most other designers, Lauren showed off some one shoulder numbers including a burnt orange top and strappy black LBD. I loved her orange and black panel mini dress too and again the French vibe was continued with leather gloves.
So far things are looking good, but it was a bit anoying to see Lauren continuing with the legging trend long after most other designers have abandoned it! The Hills girls do love their leggings though.
And finally we have the gorgeous cream monochrome outfits, my absolute favourite being the black and white strapless pencil dress with front slit (above middle). So sophisticated!
There was a tiered strapless cream top (above right) accessorised with a bow detailed beret, very French again! Her time in France with Whitney (to be shown on the new season of The Hills debuting later this month) must have really rubbed off on her!
The tiered and bow trends were also shown on a flirty little dress (above left).
Overall the collection is not exactly thrilling or trend-setting and certainly won't set the fashion world on fire; but it is very wearable (I'd wear most of the collection myself) and has strong themes running through it and definitely has Lauren's stamp all over it. And no matter what you think of it, you cannot deny it is a serious step-up from her previous boring and over-priced collections!
I like it, but I still don't think it's worth the price tag!
It'll be interesting to see her develop as a designer though as her tastes hopefully mature and she gains more confidence.
What do you think??

Eliza Dushku may have played a bad girl in her most famous role as Faith on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but at last week's CSMC Women's Guild Honoring Donna Karan Event she looked every bit the lady!
What do you think of this new look?
It's a little Stepford Wives but I think it's cute and I love love love her floral clutch bag!
The waist belt and big skirt combo is going to be a big trend for Spring 2008 and the collared vest gives a little edge.

Links to this post Email this postOMG Whose Style Is Better?! - Jenny vs Brenda
Monday, 10 March 2008
The L.A. Premiere of Horton Hears a Who was held yesterday and main star Jim Carrey's girlfriend Jenny McCarthy, and Disney star Brenda Song both turned up on the orange carpet.
But whose style was better??
Actress/comedienne Jenny looked great in a chic nautical outfit, comprising of a striped navy and white off-the-shoulder top and high waisted navy trousers. The wide legged style of the high-waisted trousers makes them much more flattering and the little silver button details are so cute! She finished off the look with navy espadrille wedges. Her sleek bob and bare shoulders make this make the look sophisticated.
As for Brenda, I wouldn't know who she was if it wasn't for my little sister watching The Suite Life of Zack and Cody every weekend! Brenda hit a trend I've noticed a lot of lately, 1920's flapper inspired dresses, with her strapless silver and cream fringed dress and long beaded necklace. She finished with black pumps and casual hair, and I adore her girly lilac nail polish!
So whose style do you think was better?
For me, they both look fab but I'd have to go with Jenny. Her maturity shows here and she clearly knows what looks good on her body. I love that she looks comfortable and casual yet sooooo chic at the same time! Love the top, love the trousers, love the shoes, luuuuurve the hair!

Links to this post Email this postOMG I Spot a Trend at Premiere of Married Life! - Waist Belts
Sunday, 9 March 2008
I cannot wait to see Rachel McAdams and Pierce Brosnan's new movie Married Life, which premeried in New York last Wednesday. I adore Rachel McAdams as an actress and she has a fabulous classic and classy sense of style.
Director Ira Sachs said of the film, "It's the story of a middle-aged man who is married, and who falls in love with another woman, but he's such a gentle figure, so he decides that to divorce his wife would humiliate her too much, so it's better to kill her." Sounds brilliant!!
But anyway back to the red carpet. The major trend was definitely Spring 2008 waist belts.
The film's star Rachel looked sophisticated in a black Alexander Wang Fall 2008 shirt dress with a skinny black waist belt and satin pumps. The gorgeous starlet kept things sleek with a slicked back updo, minimal make-up, clean skin and heavy smokey eye make-up.
New York socialite Olivia Palermo was young and funky in a mustard dress with a wide black waist belt. The rich daddy's girl also wore black tights, patent cream shoes and a black cardigan and accessorised with a black satin clutch and expensive looking diamond earrings. I alos love her centre-parted straight hair.
And finally was model Helena Christensen who wore an off-the-shoulder cream dress, again with a black waist belt to add shape. It looked fab with Helena's tan and I love that she accessorised with bright red pumps!
Do you love the waist belt trend??

Rachel Bilson was spending the day with her Grandad in California last Wednesday and the Jumper actress looked lovely and casual.
Apart from that is, her hot Christian Louboutin Arielle Studded Boots!! Those are some glam boots for everyday wear! But hey why not.
Christian Louboutin is very popular amongst Hollywood's young stars with Rachel's ex-OC co-star Mischa Barton sporting the studded Mary-Jane's on many occassions!
Anyway, as per usual I think Rachel looks adorable and I'm loving the new fringe!
