The Lauren Conrad Collection - The Verdict!
Wednesday, 12 March 2008
Lauren Conrad, previously famous for being the star of Laguna Beach and The Hills, yesterday debuted her new fashion line at L.A. Fashion Week. The budding new designer looked cute in a strapless tiered black dress and black peep toes.
She was joined by The Hills co-stars Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port, Laguna Beach co-stars Lo Bosworth and Kristin Cavallari (yes really!) and boy-toy Brody Jenner and his side-kick Frankie Delgado.
So Brody and his two exes Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari (mortal enemies since Laguna Beach) were all in one room? And no drama kicked off?! Maybe these guys are growing up!
When I asked in a poll a few weeks ago if you thought she deserved to show her line at Fashion Week, around two-thirds of you said no! So now The Lauren Conrad Fall 2008 Collection has been shown, what do we think?
Her sister Brianna (of Laguna Beach Season 3) stated that the strapless cream dress (above left) was her favourite item. It was cute, but personally I adored the floral black and white pencil dress (above middle). Check out Lauren wearing a maxi version of this dress recently in my GirlzNight article!
I also loved the black lace accents she used on many items including an LBD with a black lace skirt (above right), and the French widow inspired head wear.
There were a lot of flattering jersey style items in autumnal colours like olive, plum and burgandy. Some of my favs were the burgandy off-the-shoulder top, olive dress with plunging neckline and chic plum coloured belted cardigan.
Like most other designers, Lauren showed off some one shoulder numbers including a burnt orange top and strappy black LBD. I loved her orange and black panel mini dress too and again the French vibe was continued with leather gloves.
So far things are looking good, but it was a bit anoying to see Lauren continuing with the legging trend long after most other designers have abandoned it! The Hills girls do love their leggings though.
And finally we have the gorgeous cream monochrome outfits, my absolute favourite being the black and white strapless pencil dress with front slit (above middle). So sophisticated!
There was a tiered strapless cream top (above right) accessorised with a bow detailed beret, very French again! Her time in France with Whitney (to be shown on the new season of The Hills debuting later this month) must have really rubbed off on her!
The tiered and bow trends were also shown on a flirty little dress (above left).
Overall the collection is not exactly thrilling or trend-setting and certainly won't set the fashion world on fire; but it is very wearable (I'd wear most of the collection myself) and has strong themes running through it and definitely has Lauren's stamp all over it. And no matter what you think of it, you cannot deny it is a serious step-up from her previous boring and over-priced collections!
I like it, but I still don't think it's worth the price tag!
It'll be interesting to see her develop as a designer though as her tastes hopefully mature and she gains more confidence.
What do you think??

Monday, 3 March 2008
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer was in the front row at the Chanel Fall 2008 RTW Collection at Paris Fashion Week on Friday looking cool in a navy shift with contrasting red side-panels from the Chanel Spring 2008 RTW Collection.
Like the model on the Spring 2008 runway, claudia accessorised with a matching red clutch. I prefer the model's two-tone navy and red sandals to Claudia's red pumps, but both look great with the dress, and Claudia's ice blonde hair brightened up the whole look.
Love this bold look!

Links to this post Email this postOMG Whose Designer Style Was Better?! - Beyonce vs Rihanna at the 2008 Grammys
Monday, 11 February 2008
Here is my first look at the fashion at the 2008 Grammy Awards (which are happening right now!):
Beyonce looked stunning in a ice blue assymetrical Elie Saab Spring 2008 gown and...
Rihanna opted for a fun and flirty feathered blue Zac Posen Spring 2008 dress.
Both ladies looked stunning in their blue designer dresses, but whose style was better??
I love Rihanna's fun youthful looking dress and the electric blue colour is fab and she even wore it with silver strappies like on the runway. Plus of course she's rocking her drastic new hair do and on the red carpet she even stated that she may cut it even shorter next time!
But I love Beyonce's strapless gown with silver sequins and her matching silver bracelet. With her hair cut off to shoulder length too she looks fresh and gorgeous!
This is gonna be a rare occassion (since I'm super opinionated!) where I cannot pick a favourite! I'll let you guys decide because I love them both for different reasons!
Tell me below what you think!

Wednesday, 6 February 2008
If you want a sexy dress, all the celebs know you have to wear Herve Leger! The famously form fitting dresses were worn by (from left to right) Amy Smart, Rose McGowan, Melissa George, Sophia Bush and Christina Milian to the Herve Leger by Max Azria Fall 2008 Show at New York Fashion Week.
My fav Herve Leger worn by the celebs had to be either Amy Smart's for the bold colour or Sophia Bush' for the traditional Herve Leger stripes and the way she accessorised it.
The Fall 2008 collection had the traditional stripes theme in autumnal tones and striking black and white.
There were some very daring and unusual designs, not for the faint hearted!
Soft neutral colours like peach, baby pink, cream and brown were used in many dresses which is a big Fall 2008 trend.
Some of my absolute favourite's were the clasic black dresses from the v-neck mini to the stunning knee-length dresses with ruffled skirts.
And then were the gowns. With the traditional Herve Leger fitted bodice that all the dresses have but with loose flattering skirts.
My favourites were the white gown with plunging neck line and the black one-shoulder gown with flower detail.
For those wondering how to wear your hair in the fall, the models in the Herve Leger collection wore their hair straight and dramatically side-parted like at most of the other Fall 2008 collections.

Sunday, 3 February 2008
I've decided to only report on my favourite collections from this weeks New York Fashion Week otherwise I'll never keep up, and the BCBG Fall 2008 Collection definitely fits the bill!
The collection was shown yesterday and Sophia Bush attended looking a little musmsy dare I say and letting me down with her outfit choice for the first time recently. The actress wore a knee-length floaty pink skirt and a peach wrap top.
Christina Milian looked cute in a backless silver dress and a silver necklace and Ana Oritz stayed simple in a cream knitted mini dress and black tights.
So now to the collection:
Tops were loose and unstructured, trousers were wide legged and skirts wereshort black and pocketed.
There was a gorgeous beige coat with a satin trim and a brown belt as well as a shorter dark grey jacket with the same belted waist.
Simple tunics in neutral tones in short or mid length styles looked effortlessly chic.
The hair was dramatically side swept and sleek.
Cream was a big colour trend and dresses were mini and either strapless or off-the-shoulder.I love the ruffled skirt on the strapless cream dress above left.
There were also deep rich autumnal colours like burgandy, petrol blue and mustard and shiny satin materials.
There were one shoulder dresses, classic LBDs and volumous mini skirts.
Not all dresses were short however, there were also nude coloured knee-length dresses both in floaty and structured styles.

Then there were the evening gowns which had quite a casual and laidback vibe about them in soft chiffons again with the signature tied brown waist belts that almost every outfit in the collection sported.

L-R: Molly Sims, Heidi Klum and Ashanti
The Heart Truth kicked off New York Fashion Week yesterday with their annual Red Dress Collection, where celebrities strut down the runway in red (and sometimes pink!) designer dresses to promote healthy hearts.
Super model Heidi Klum bounced down the runway in a cute layered Marc Jacobs dress and black courts, former model Molly Sims wore a sexy Swarovski crystal encrusted fitted dress and Ashanti opted for a pink strapless Tracy Reese number and showed off her gorgeous fringe!
L-R: Ana Ortiz, Maria Menounos and Joss Stone
There were also some celebs in fabulous evening gowns! Ana Ortiz looked to be having a great time in her tiered Badgley Mischka gown, Maria Menounos was regal in a stunning strapless Marchesa gown with silver detailing and British soul singer Joss Stone wore a classic strappy red Max Azria Atelier gown.
Get your red on ladies!

Links to this post Email this postOMG I Love Paris Fashion Week Spring 2008 Couture Valentino
Celebs at the Valentino Spring 2008 Couture Show at Paris Fashion Week last week included Gossip Girl's Blake Lively who wore one of my favourite white dresses from Valentino's Spring 2008 RTW Collection, Eva Herzigova also in a little white dress with cropped black jacket and Eva LaRue who wore a black high-waisted skirt and a gorgeous white ruffle blouse.
The collection had some fantastic individual pieces, most notably the cream lace top and matching lace skirt (above middle).
There were skirt suits aplenty with pencil skirts and flared skirts, swing jackets and belted jackets, in pastels and florals, but all with cropped sleeves.
The coats were feminine and sleek in bright all over colours with minimal details.
Florals were a big theme from prints to embroidery. The floral dresses were very ladylike especially teamed with elbow length gloves.
There were also lots of pretty cream and beige dresses in sleek sexy styles with plunging necklines and ruffles.
Shoes were mostly silver courts.
There were black dresses, white dresses and black and white dresses galore! Monochrome glam.White fishnet tights were a big trend as were slicked bakc hairdos with oversized earrings.
There were very feminine gowns, my favourite being the floral, chiffon off-the-shoulder number (above left) which was figure hugging yet soft.
Shiny fabrics were also used a lot in the Valentino gowns in pastel colours like lilac, green and pink.
Some of the gowns has sleek, straight sillhouettes and incorporated beading as well as silver and gold metallics.
They mostly had fitted bodices and layered or curve skimming skirts.
And the show ended with classic Valentino white gowns.
There were many styles including a trendy one shoulder number and a gown with a plunging neckline, cropped sleeves and a silver bow around the waist.
My favourite however was modelled by Chanel Iman and was a beautiful strappy lace number with chiffon panels wrapped all around.

Friday, 1 February 2008
Jean Paul Gautier's Spring 2008 Couture Collection was shown at Paris Fashion Week last week and fashion week regulars Dita Von Teese and Blake Lively were both there.
Dita made a statement in a red check belted coat and a sequined berret whilst Blake looked great in a navy velvet high waisted skirt and a print blouse.
There were many skirt suits on show in plain and print materials. The jackets were slim fitting and the skirts were fitted with flared bottoms.
There were also gorgeously tailored trouser suits with wide legged trousers and jackets with cropped sleeves. My personal favourite was the pin striped one though they were all great!
Other featured items were a black top with sheer panel, a floral print maxi dress and a fitted white waistcoat with matching trousers.
There were casual dresses with large flared sleeves and strappy minis.
The model's hair was worn covered in hair grease with fringes slicked across foreheads.
There were also beautiful but edgy evening dresses, my favourite being the black and cream dress with one sheer shoulder.
The gowns were highly structured and detailed in a dark gold colour or jet black and all were curve hugging. Feathers, lace and velvet were used to give a luxurious effect.
The entire collection was full of prints and dramatic materials so nothing was simple but it was all somehow very pulled together.

Top model Natalia Vodianova wasn't on the runway at the Givenchy Spring 2008 Couture Show at Paris Fashion Week last week but the beauty did show up to see the designer's new collection wearing a one shouldered LBD.
The edgy collection began with a range of curve enhancing coats in black, white and pastels, each with a fitted waist and flared bottom.
The individual pieces encorporated a lot of leather and sheer materials. Sheer blouses were teamed with skinny leather trousers and one of the stand out pieces was a long sleeveless leather jacket.
Skirts were flouncy yet structured and leggins made a return in gikd sequins.Hair was straight, flat and centre parted - a huge trend right now.
There were certainly some crazy dresses in the collection which showed off the artistic and adventurous side of the designer...
Whilst some of the other dresses were more wearable but equally creative using feathers and metallics.
Footwear was inspired by ballet shoes with criss crosses wrapped around ankles and legs.
Of course the collection included classic LBDs, mostly with ruffled underksirts in a contrasting colour and all worn with tights in a variety of colours.
The collection even channeled a bit of Wonder Woman with the funky headwear!
There weren't many gowns in the collection but the ones we did see were white, feminine and dramatic.Pics Pics

Thursday, 31 January 2008
If you love gowns and dresses the Elie Saab Spring 2008 Couture Show at Paris Fashion Week last week was the place to be! And that's exactly where Dita Von Teese was in her glamorous red dress and satin red shoes, where Eva LaRue was in a high waisted black skirt and satin purple top and where Melissa Theuriau showed up a little underdressed in jeans and a black velvet jacket.
Each woman however, embodied the luxury of Elie Saab!
Pencil skirt shapes continued to dominate but now with metallic silver beading and matching blazers or chiffon blouses.Hair was worn in high chignon's on top of the head.
As with the other runway shows, strapless dresses were popular, mostly seen in whites and silvers.
Most of the models wore black peep toes with gold trim.
Soft feminine shaped dresses with plunging v-necks and floaty skirts were also a trend.
It should also be noted that Elie Saab opted out of any jewelry or accessories and instead let the clothes take centre stage.
As I've mentioned before, matching seems to be the new clashing in fashion and so Elie Saab matched some of their strapless pencil dressed with coordinated cropped cardigans for a prim and proper look.
The largest collection of peices on the Elie Saab Couture runway however had to be the gowns! There were so many to choose from! There were the metallic sheen gowns with the high slits at the front of the dress showing off the leg...
Then there were the yellow chiffon gowns each with silver detailing and a varitey of different necklines from strapless to one-strap.
Bright coloured gowns could also be seen in pink and blue and again strapless had to be the biggest trend.
Each gown was cut simply but with a distinguishing feature such as a feathered neckline or silver embrodiery.
The metallic beaded gowns were reminiscent of the flapper era and were worn in sleek silhouettes.
And finally were the beautiful white gowns that came at the end of the collection. Each had the silver embroidery that was the common thread through this collection but style's varied.
I loved the strapless peasant style gown with floaty skirt (above right) and the sleek sexy strapless gown (above middle).
But my favourite has to be the dramatic one-shoulder white gown with structured bodice and full chiffon skirt (above left).

Wednesday, 23 January 2008
Dita Von Teese continued her rounds at Paris Fashion Week and headed over to see the Christian Lacroix Spring 2008 Couture Collection in black Lacroix trousers and a lace black bustier with puff sleeves.
Lacroix's collection was vibrant, exhilarating and incredibly detailed with tailored jackets, ombre tights, black and white check platform sandals, print materials, lace panels, neck scarves and embroidery. Whew!
Skirts came in many different lengths from knee length to calf length and even maxi skirts however volume was a common theme.
Some of the most beautiful dresses were the delicate lace and chiffon ones seen in light airy cream, beige and gold tones and pretty feminine shapes.
As with the other couture shows at Paris Fashion Week, volume played a big role in many of the dresses as did off the shoulder cuts, puff sleeves and bright pink and blue colours.
The LBDs had fitted bodices, square necklines and cinched in waists with contrasting volumous skirts.
There was a flux of off-the-shoulder chiffon gowns in vibrant colours like green, red and maroon.
Some of the gowns were like pieces of art, such as the deep blue chiffon gown with a ruffled wave like skirt and the vibrant fuscia gown with gold embroidery in the shape of flowers.

The show closed with a range of incredibly over-the-top pure white gowns with huge fairytale princess style skirts, mesh overlays, flower prints and puff sleeves. It was like Disney weddings gone wild!

L-R: Claudia Schiffer, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively
Simple, classic and youthful, the Chanel Spring 2008 Couture show at Paris Fashion Week yesterday was my favourite so far and also had one of my favourite young celebs in attendance - Blake Lively!
Blake modernised 1920s flapper chic with her pleated blakc dress, long fine-knit grey cardigan and layered pearl necklaces. She finished the look with black tights and gorgeous black pumps.
Also at the event was fashionista Diane Kruger who wore a similar black Chanel Resort 2008 dress but with a halter neck top and bare legs. She added a fun touch with her yellow buckled Chanel Fall 2007 pumps and sequined bag.
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer rounded out the elite front row in a prim and proper puff skirt and bow detailed waist belt. She was also rocking black patent Christian Louboutin, Joli Noeud Dorcet 957 sandals.
The show it self was like under-the-sea ice princess full of whites, greys, blacks, silvers and peaches.
Short skirts came in many shapes, the most popular being the draped shell shaped skirts and the pleated ones.
Coats were thigh length with cropped sleeves and rounded collars. The look was soft but tailored with military style detailing.
All the models wore flat pumps in silver, black, white or black and white adding to the young look of the clothes.
There were plunging v-neck blazers with Parisian style brooches used as fasteners and sequins were used for sublte glamour.
A possible trend to replace last years leggings, was the skinny raw-edged crops worn on the knee with pretty long-length tops.
Chanel hit the trend for structured dresses perfectly with his strapless khaki dress, his silver sequined number with three tiered skirt and the strappy silver and white striped dress.
At the other extreme were the soft girly dresses with feathered edges in ivory and peach worn with sexy one shoulders or beautiful beaded details.
All the dresses were worn with sheer white or black tights.
The classic LBDs were modernised with draped skirts, bows, feathered edges and jewels. I adore the one pictured in the middle above!
The models wore their hair in dramatic updos with large quiffs and tiara style sequined bands.
Then came the gowns! There was the one shouldered, geometric shaped white gown that was cut mid-calf and the tiered black and white gown with stunning neckline.
But my favourites were the classic and glamorous black gowns. One was a strapless chiffon number with volumous skirt and feathered details that looked like it was made for the curves of Dita Von Teese, whilst the other was a strapless gown with structured bodice and sheer skirt and sleeves.
