Idol Gives Back - The Good and Not So Good Fashions
Monday, 7 April 2008
American Idol wants to remind you all that it is not just a hugely successful reality TV show produced (and presented) by super-rich men in suits whose pockets it is happily lining....they also do some good in the world, and no not just because it gave us Kelly Clarkson!
Idol Gives Back is a foundation which helps children and young people in poverty in the USA and around the world through various means.
The Idol Gives Back 2008 show was filmed yesterday in L.A. and loads of stars turned up, performed, and presented. Some looked casual, some looked glam, some looked good, some looked not so good.
Miley Cyrus (left) performed at the show and she looked good in casual skinny jeans and a cute sequined, layered, camisole. She looked young and fun but I'm not fussed on the boots.
Also looking good was Teri Hatcher in a tailored black blazer, long white top and jeans. Wonder if her and Ryan shared any awkward moments?!
Looking not-so-good in their casual outfits were Fergie (left), who was shocking in shiny leather leggings, and Mariah Carey who was boring and cheap looking in a black vest and gold chain belt.
Some stars dressed up a bit more though, like Geri Halliwell who debuted new boyfriend, dancer Ivan FlipZ Velez, at the event. She wore the blue-grey version of a Herve Leger dress once worn by Rihanna in pink. She looked hot and her figure is amazing these days! In shape, but not too skinny as she has been in the past.
Reese Witherspoon presented at the event and looked demure and pretty in a simple LBD. All the details were on trend though: a waist belt, sheer top section and ruffles. Her bold red peep toes set of the whole look!
Looking not so good all glammed up was Idol judge Paula Abdul. The sweetheart neckline, red dress is actually pretty sexy, but poor Paula just always looks a mess! I don't know how she does it......but I think the secret's in the 80s bouffant hair.
I love the style of Carrie Underwood's off the shoulder Farah Angsana gown, but it seems a little OTT for this event, considering most people were in jeans! Plus I hate the iridescent colour orange/pink colour!
As a side note, Carrie was asked about rumoured boyfriend Chase Crawford and she said that they had broken up a couple of months ago via text because it just wasn't working so it's weird that it's all coming out in the press now. She said it was mutual. Hmm. Dumping via text, how classy!

Monday, 11 February 2008
L-R: Alicia Keys in Armani Prive, Natasha Bedingfield in Reem Acra, Carrie Underwood in Zuhair Murad
So they've all walked the red carpet at the Grammy Awards and now it's time for the rest of us to pick our best and worst dressed!
1. My favourite look of last night's awards was Carrie Underwood's floral Zuhair Murad Spring 2008 gown. It had a beautiful halter neck and and was so pretty and stylish, matched with her purple clutch.
2. My second favourite goes to Alicia Keys who wore a dramatic navy blue high necked Armani Prive gown with a full glamorous train. Her pink lipstick and pink clutch kept the look young and fun.
3. And my third favourite was Brit Natasha Bedingfield (who is very hit or miss in the fashion stakes these days!) who looked like an Old Hollywood icon in her strapless purple Reem Acra Spring 2008 gown. I love the sexy waist belt and her vintage curls.
L-R: Faith Hill in Valentino, Fergie in Calvin Klein, Beyonce in Elie Saab
4. My fourth fav gown was Beyonce's beautiful Elie Saab Spring 2008 strapless ice queen gown. The silver and sky blue gown fitted her curves perfectly, but despite initially liking her new shorter hair, on second glance I think it would have suited the dress better had she worn it up.
5. I put Faith Hill in fifth place for her one shouldered Valentino Spring 2008 gown in classic black (which was one of my fav of the Valentino collection!) which looked sophisticated and sleek.
6. And the last of my favourite gowns goes to Fergie who looked sweet and summery in a strapless yellow Calvin Klein gown. I would have placed her higher but I don't think the gown quite fitted her right. Is is just me??

L-R: Keyshia Cole in Marc Bouwer, Rihanna in Zac Posen, Miley Cyrus in Celine, Corinne Bailey Rae in Luella
Now it is the Grammy's, which is meant to be more fun and young than some of the other award shows, so many starlets chose shorter dresses.
7. My favourite being Rihanna's unusual blue Zac Posen Spring 2008 dress. I love the trendy sheer straps and the feathered skirt, especially with her silver strappies and natural make-up.
8. Miley Cyrus comes in 8th place for her silver and white layered Celine Spring 2007 shift dress. Love the dress, hate the inches of make-up and cheap hair extensions.
9. In 9th place I've chosen Keyshia Cole for her adorable black Marc Bouwer Fall 2007 shift with a cinched in silver waist. Simple but flatterring. It's just ashame about the tattoos!
10. And finally, 10th on my best dressed list is british songstress Corinne Bailey Rae who took a fashion risk that paid off with her blue Luella Spring 2008 that was made out of plastic poppies! Unusual but it looked fab!
Whose did you like and whose did you hate??

L-R: Kelis, Natasha Bedingfield, Taylor Swift and Leighton Meester
So many celebrities showed up for the Verizon Wireless and People Magazine Party in Hollywood on Friday and many looked great in bold colours and prints.
Kelis looked hot in an 80s inspired pink polka dot skirt and sexy black bandeau top - an outfit you need plenty of confidence and a unique sense of personal style to pull offf!
Leighton Meester also opted for prints in her adorable leopard print dress with a tied neckline and red piping, which was matched with her red sandals.
Natasha Bedingfield redeemed herself in my eyes after her recent fashion mishap, in a black and green colour block dress with a sexy halter neck.
And finally 18 year old country singing sensation Taylor Swift looked sweet in a bold purple bubble hem dress teamed with sparkly silver strappies and gorgeous side swept curls.
L-R: Kim Kardashian, Christina Milian, Miley Cyrus and Fergie
Also worth a mention for looking half way decent are; Kim Kardashian in a fitted cream Herve Leger dress, Christina Milian in a long black bandeau dress with a revealing cut-out section, Miley Cyrus who looked cute and more age-appropriate than usual in a floaty red and cream sequined dress and finally Fergie who bucked the dress trend and instead opted for a sexy pinstriped suit with slick centre-parted pony tail.

Saturday, 19 January 2008
Miley Cyrus had the Hollywood Premiere of her movie Best of Both Worlds 3D on Thursday, but who dressed better? The star of the show or High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale who was also there?
Miley looked too grown up for my liking but her chiffon and sequined grey dress was very unusual, which is a good thing!
Ashley looked like the typical Hollywood babe with her long blonde hair and tan. I like her white bubble dress with gold sequins but I just feel like this look has been done loads before, and her accessories are all wrong!
For me Miley looked better overall, though it's a tough call because I hate that she looks so much older than she is! The dress is a nice refrehsing change and the accessories are simple.
But whose style did you think was better?

Tuesday, 8 January 2008
15 year old Miley Cyrus was seen leaving her hotel in Washington on Sunday in an overly sexy red satin pencil dress.
I don't think this is appropriate for a girl of her age to be wearing, especially one who is a role model to young girls (including my baby sister!).
To make things worse, the teenager was plastered in make-up and wearing a leather jacket, high heels and big gold hoop earrings.
It all seems a bit age inappropriate to me. I don't blame Miley though. The people around her shouldn't let her walk out looking like that! It's not even stylish, lol.
What do you think of how she's dressed??

Monday, 31 December 2007
Teen sensation (and apparently spoiled brat) Miley Cyrus was looking like butter wouldn't melt whilst out and about in NYC last Thursday.
I don't get what it is about this girl but my 8 year old sister adores Hannah Montana and I have to hand it to her, this outfit is pretty stylish for a 15 year old! God knows I could not dress myself when I was 15 lol.
Miley posed before getting into a car, wearing long layered t-shirts, black tights, knee high black boots and a very chic and cosy looking oversized cardigan.
I really love the grey and black striped knitted cardi! Adorable!
I bet this girl goes crazy like formally sweet Lindsay and Britney in a few years!

Monday, 19 November 2007
Black dresses were everywhere on the red carpet at this year's American Music Awards last night and some of my favs were worn by singers Fergie, Nicole Scherzinger and American Idol reject Kellie Pickler.
Fergie looked so much better than she usual does, all soft and feminine in her subtle make-up and centre parted curls. This is a huge change for the better Fergie and you look loads younger!! Her black, trapeze mini dress was so cute too and had a beautiful neckline to make it stand out.
Nicole Scherzinger opted for a very "now" fitted, black pencil dress and again added interest with an unusual neckline detail. I love her chunky black bracelet, sophisticated updo and platform heels!
Kellie Pickler dared to be different in her gorgeous, floor-length, chiffon gown with cut out sides and crossed over back straps. I think this look is super glam and I even love her Marilyn Monroe, platinum hairdo as it goes well with the vibe of the dress.
Whilst black was definatly the biggest trend of the night, quite a few ladies opted to wear varying hues of gold, including Ashanti in a yellowy-gold, Vanessa Hudgens in sparkly gold and Beyonce in metallic gold.
Ashanti played it safe in a floaty, bandeau ball gown with a ruffled train, teamed with a gold clutch and enormous earrings!
The stunning Vanessa Hudgens looked adorable and age appropriate in a sequined gold mini dress from Marc Bouwer with a gold arm cuff and loads of dark curls.
Finally, I'm a little on the fence with Beyonce's gold satin, fish-tail number. She definately has the figure to pull it off but I prefer the bottom of the dress to the top and the many chunky bracelets are too much. Also, she'd look so much classier with brunette locks, this cheap blonde colour harks back to the Survivor days of Destiny's Child.
And as they say, variety is the spice of life so here we have Ashley Tisdale in a very intricate, silver flapper-style dress, and Miley Cyrus looking bold and possibly a little age inappropriate in a gorgeous red, bubble dress with sparkly gold peep toes.
My fav looks of the night go to Fergie and Kellie Pickler in black and Vanessa Hudgens in gold. Which did you love/hate??

Monday, 9 July 2007

Teen starlet Miley Cyrus also attended the Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix L.A. Premier but unlike the other young stars who came out in pretty, delicate dresses, Miley went rockstar!
Bringing the yin to the other starlets yangs, Miley opted for skinny, rockstar jeans, a black t-shirt, some white peep toe stilettos and plenty of bad girl jewellery. I like her different take on premier style and it makes her stand out from the crowd.
