The 2008 Annual CDFA Awards - My Top 10!
Wednesday, 4 June 2008
So it was very difficult to choose just 10 outfits I liked from The 2008 Annual CDFA Awards which were held on Monday, but somehow I've managed it!
Here are my favourite 10 as worn by the most stylish of celebrities, models and designers!
I didn't know what to think of Maggie Gyllenhaal's Proenza Schouler outfit, which I placed at number 10, but I was certainly drawn to it! I felt like I shouldn't like it as the trousers look like MC Hammer cast-offs and the top was green and black check and shapeless............but somehow I like it! Crazy.
It's very unique and Maggie-ish and the shoes are divine! I think she's got a strong enough personality to carry this look. And fashion is all about making statements and experimenting!
At 9 is Eva Mendes who looks pretty in a white Calvin Klein Resort 2008 gown with nude peep toes. The dress was very simple though and I like a little more impact at events like the CDFA Awards.
One of my favourite up and coming models, Chanel Iman, is at number 8. She may be young but her sense of style is flawless so far. Her navy gown is the first of three navy gowns to make my top 10 so this is definitely a trend! I loved the high-neck and how her shoulders and back are shown off and the train is so glam!
At number 7 is the second navy blue gown, as worn by Mandy Moore. Her strapless Abaete gown has such a clean and simple cut but the white piping on the bodice adds some interest and it fits her so well. I think she should have put all her hair up though.
You can always count on Victoria Beckham to make a fashion statement, and that she did at the CDFA Awards which landed her at number 6 on my best dressed list! I loved her one shouldered, black Marc Jacobs mini dress covered in heart shaped ruffles. How cute!
The sash around the waist kept the look defined and I love that she left the clown make-up at home this time and went for a more natural look. And the best part of all is the way Victoria works it!
At 5 is the first designer to make the list, Tory Burch, who wore one of her own designs, a gorgeous hot pink gown with an absolutely amazing statement necklace. She did win Accessory Designer of the Year don't you know?!I also love navy blue with hot pink and she was carrying a navy clutch. The dress is a simple shape but her use of colour is great and she really does know how to accessorise. She deserved the award!
At 4 is the chic half of the Olsen duo, Ashley Olsen who bucked the trend for gowns and made a huge impact in a beautifully feminised Calvin Klein Resort 2009 tuxedo. It's also lovely to see the roots of her hair done for a change and her hair brushed into a sleek, centre-parted do.
I think she looked great! And she certainly stood out.
At 3 is the beautiful (and not very pregnant looking, despite rumours a few months ago) Paula Patton, actress and wife of blue eyed soul singer Robin Thicke. She was wearing a gorgeous black and white floral, one-shouldered gown from the Michael Kors Spring 2008 Collection.
This look is classic but it was kept up to date with the accessories; a yellow clutch, skinny black waist belt and large diamond earrings. I also love her acid bright nail polish - spices things up dontcha think?
At number 2, looking incredibly glamorous and sleek, is Kim Cattrall who wore a draped, navy blue Monique Lhuillier Fall 2008. This ranked highest on my list of all the navy gowns because I loved the dramatic jewelled one-shoulder and the whole look was so sophisticated and classy on her.
No sign of the cheap and sometimes tacky Samantha!

And at the top of the list is a lady who knows a thing or two about fashion, talented Marchesa designer, Georgina Chapman!
Georgina may work behind the scenes of the fashion industry but the British designer is stunning enough to compete with all the models and celebs at the event! She wore one of her own Marchesa designs, a striking red shift dress with ruffled sleeves and a high neck, with matching red satin pumps.
The fitted shape of the dress looked great on her, as did the bold colour and with her black hair and pale skin, it was visually dramatic. I loved the sparkly clutch and I think she looked even better than actress Lake Bell, who has previously worn this design too.

Monday, 12 May 2008
Kristin Davis looked like a princess in a nude chiffon baby doll gown with a gold sequined bodice, from Michael Kors' Fall 2008 Collection. So girly!
Supermodel Gisele was a knock-out in a sexy pink Versace Fall 2008 gown. The plunging neckline and cut out sides combined with the satin material mean this look is only for the likes of tall, and slender Gisele!
But in contrast, Beyonce proved that curves are still stunning as she showed off hers in a strapless pink organza gown from Armani Prive with soft, delicate ruffles.
The colour was beautiful on her skin and I love the bare shoulders. For a fashionable edge she accessorised with contrasting emerald green jewellery.

Singer/actresses Jennifer Hudson (left) and Jennifer Lopez (right) dazzled at the Movies Rock 2007 event in L.A. last night.
J-Hud looked radiant in a gorgeous, black Michael Kors jumpsuit from his Autumn 2007 collection. She wore the strapless all-in-one suit with a patent waist belt, a long silver necklace and silver peep toes for a style totally different to the sea of dresses seen at the event!
J-Lo on the other hand complimented her beautiful new pregnant shape in a white, chiffon empire waist gown from the Versace Spring 2008 Resort collection. The dress was a very stylish one shoulder style and matched her pregnancy glow and beaded gold clutch perfectly.

Little black dresses were, as always, a huge trend! Eve (far left) chose a knee length, strappy satin version with a little waist belt and black tights. I love the dress and the cute peep toes but the hat shoulda been left at home and the tatts look cheap!
Fergie (second left) went for a daring Dolce and Gabanna dress with lace up sides and fitted bustier though I think a plain clutch and an up-do woulda made the overall look less busy.

The gorgeous Nicole Scherzinger (second right) looked lovely and polished in a black bandeau pencil dress with black peep toes and black nail polish. She looks nice but it'd be good to see her be more daring with her fashion choices, she wore a black pencil dress to the American Music Awards last month too.
Finally, looking adorable in a black mini dress from the Gucci Spring 2008 collection and black tights was actress Kate Hudson (far right). The shape of the strapless dress is very now with the nipped in waist and slightly flared skirt, as are the pointed black courts and the red clutch is perfect for a splash of colour. Overall its a very young fun look!
But the event wasn't all black and white! Oh no! Some stars chose to brighten up the "blue carpet" in some bold coloured gowns.
The lovely Beyonce (far left) was finally back to her brown hair again (woohoo! She listened lol) and was looking so much better. She stood out in a figure hugging, emerald coloured fish-tail gown by Zac Posen with gold accessories.
Also in a green and gold was Mary J Blige (far right) who showed up in a loose, strapless green chiffon gown by Alexander McQueen. I love her statement gold necklace but it would like better without the gold hoop earrings. But as for the bason cut hair - what can I say??! It's awful!
Emmy Rossum (second left) looked sugar sweet in a candy pink fitted, knee-length dress. Her usual brown curls, were loosened into lovely soft waves, and like most of the other celebs, she accessorised in gold.
Finally, we have Carrie Underwood (second right) who is moving up in the style stakes lately. She wore my favourite dress of the night, a stunning floor length red dress with a gold corseted waist and a plunging neckline. She got everything right from her delicate, gold drop earrings, her gold cuff bracelet and her champagne coloured clutch bag, to her soft natural looking up do. The night's style winner without a doubt!
