2008 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala - Black and White
Tuesday, 13 May 2008
Queen of glam, Dita von Teese, wore an eye-catching strapless white gown with black embroidery from the Marchesa Fall 2008 Collection. The beautiful creation also had a white feathered hem. It was very much in Dita's style and looked great with her peeled skin and red lips.
Naomi Watts on the other hand transformed herself in a pleated, all-white, halter neck gown by Theirry Mulger with old Hollywood blond curls and red lipstick. How Marilyn of her?!
I didn't even recognise her at first but she looked amazing in the bright white and the jewelled star detail was very unique. I like the fact that her gown and whole look was unlike anyone elses.
But my absolute favourite (probably of the whole night!!) was Emmy Rossum's fitted, floral, black and white Phi gown. The fitted basque style top and fishtail skirt were so sexy and yet the floral design and black waist sash were sophisticated. It's trendy but at the same time classic and in it, Emmy looked very classy.
Gooooorgeous! Can you tell I love the dress yet?!
She wore her hair curly as usual but a little sleeker than her everyday style and it looked great. Emmy accessorised with a simple black clutch and delicate silver necklaces.

Links to this post Email this post2008 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala - Colour, Colour Colour!
Like bright bold colours? There were plenty to be seen at the Costume Instirue Gala last week!
My favourite use of colour was Eva Longoria's trendy plum coloured Marchesa Fall 2008 gown. The colour is in style right now and I loved the strapless style combined with glamorous ruffles. She should lighten up on the troweled on make-up though!
52 year old, supermodel Iman attended with hubby David Bowie looking radiant wearing a bold satin red gown from Dolce and Gabbana. The dress gathered on the hip with a jewelled detail giving it a truly dramatic and elegant look.
I also love love loved the colour of actress Kate Mara's canary yellow Zac Posen Spring 2008, one shoulder, ruffled gown. Clearly ruffles are a huge trend now.
The dress also had a belted waist to give it shape and a dramatic train, perfect for the Costume Institute Gala. Her make-up was simple and flawless with well defined eyes.

Monday, 12 May 2008
Kristin Davis looked like a princess in a nude chiffon baby doll gown with a gold sequined bodice, from Michael Kors' Fall 2008 Collection. So girly!
Supermodel Gisele was a knock-out in a sexy pink Versace Fall 2008 gown. The plunging neckline and cut out sides combined with the satin material mean this look is only for the likes of tall, and slender Gisele!
But in contrast, Beyonce proved that curves are still stunning as she showed off hers in a strapless pink organza gown from Armani Prive with soft, delicate ruffles.
The colour was beautiful on her skin and I love the bare shoulders. For a fashionable edge she accessorised with contrasting emerald green jewellery.

I know you've seen these pics, and I know I'm late, but no celebrity fashion blog worth it's salt can bypass the Metroplitan Museum of Art's Annual Costume Institute Gala. It is the fashion event of the year after all!
My favourite of the classic black gowns were worn by Zhang Ziyi, Blake Lively and Ashley Olsen.
Zhang Ziyi kept up on trends with a one shouldered black gown from Armani Prive Spring 2008 Couture, one of my favourites of the collection. Her sleek hair and clean skin were stunning.
Ashley Olsen looked way better than her sister Mary-Kate (who looked like an old lady with ashen skin, greyish hair and hunched shoulders) in a custom made Diane von Furstenberg cutout gown which looked sexy but classic. I wish she'd have put a little more effort into hair and make-up though.
My favourite black gown though was Gossip Girl Blake Lively's Ralph Lauren Fall 2008 gown. The strapless, feathered, fish tail gown fitted her like a glove and had just enough glamour whilst still being simple.
Her soft hair and make-up were flawless and the little black satin gloves were such a cute touch!

Links to this post Email this postThe Lauren Conrad Collection - The Verdict!
Wednesday, 12 March 2008
Lauren Conrad, previously famous for being the star of Laguna Beach and The Hills, yesterday debuted her new fashion line at L.A. Fashion Week. The budding new designer looked cute in a strapless tiered black dress and black peep toes.
She was joined by The Hills co-stars Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port, Laguna Beach co-stars Lo Bosworth and Kristin Cavallari (yes really!) and boy-toy Brody Jenner and his side-kick Frankie Delgado.
So Brody and his two exes Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari (mortal enemies since Laguna Beach) were all in one room? And no drama kicked off?! Maybe these guys are growing up!
When I asked in a poll a few weeks ago if you thought she deserved to show her line at Fashion Week, around two-thirds of you said no! So now The Lauren Conrad Fall 2008 Collection has been shown, what do we think?
Her sister Brianna (of Laguna Beach Season 3) stated that the strapless cream dress (above left) was her favourite item. It was cute, but personally I adored the floral black and white pencil dress (above middle). Check out Lauren wearing a maxi version of this dress recently in my GirlzNight article!
I also loved the black lace accents she used on many items including an LBD with a black lace skirt (above right), and the French widow inspired head wear.
There were a lot of flattering jersey style items in autumnal colours like olive, plum and burgandy. Some of my favs were the burgandy off-the-shoulder top, olive dress with plunging neckline and chic plum coloured belted cardigan.
Like most other designers, Lauren showed off some one shoulder numbers including a burnt orange top and strappy black LBD. I loved her orange and black panel mini dress too and again the French vibe was continued with leather gloves.
So far things are looking good, but it was a bit anoying to see Lauren continuing with the legging trend long after most other designers have abandoned it! The Hills girls do love their leggings though.
And finally we have the gorgeous cream monochrome outfits, my absolute favourite being the black and white strapless pencil dress with front slit (above middle). So sophisticated!
There was a tiered strapless cream top (above right) accessorised with a bow detailed beret, very French again! Her time in France with Whitney (to be shown on the new season of The Hills debuting later this month) must have really rubbed off on her!
The tiered and bow trends were also shown on a flirty little dress (above left).
Overall the collection is not exactly thrilling or trend-setting and certainly won't set the fashion world on fire; but it is very wearable (I'd wear most of the collection myself) and has strong themes running through it and definitely has Lauren's stamp all over it. And no matter what you think of it, you cannot deny it is a serious step-up from her previous boring and over-priced collections!
I like it, but I still don't think it's worth the price tag!
It'll be interesting to see her develop as a designer though as her tastes hopefully mature and she gains more confidence.
What do you think??

Heroes actress Dania Ramirez looked stunning at the first day of L.A. Fashion Week Fall 2008 on Sunday.
The up and coming starlet looked stylish in a gold strapless bubble dress with a waist belt and lots of necklaces and bracelets.
Probably too many. It ruins the outfit a little. But she does still look great!

L.A. Fashion Week begun today with a kick-off party hosted by designer Erin Fetherston and attended by model Leelee Sobieski.
Leelee looked beautifully girly in one of Erin's own designs; a short floaty white dress with her signature bird print featured in a subtle grey.
I love pretty things!

Links to this post Email this postJessica Alba Also Wears Marchesa to The Oscars
Monday, 25 February 2008
As well as Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba and her growing baby bump wore Marchesa Fall 2008 to today's Academy Awards.
Jessica chose a strapless deep purple gown which skimmed over her third trimester bump (so she told Ryan Seacrest, though she wouldn't reveal her due date!).
It's so cliche to say about a pregnant woman but her skin truly was glowing, and I love her pretty braided updo. She accessorised in gold with big earrings and a chunky bracelet, but kept her neck area clear so as not to over do it, especially with the feather detail on the dress.

So the celebs are walking the red carpet at The 80th Annual Academy Awards right now! Are you excited??!
Anne Hathaway has already arrived and looked stunning in one of my 25 favourite potential Oscar gowns, a red Marchesa Fall 2008 number.
I love the fashionable one shoulder with the rosette detail, and the long glamorous train. It's very feminine and looks dramatic next to her pale skin.
I'm a big fan of red dresses!

Sunday, 10 February 2008
Jessica Alba, at the Scientific and Technical Academy Awards yesterday, looked beautiful in a new Marchesa Fall 2008 strapless grey gown.
The beautiful chiffon dress had three ruffled tiers and an empire waistline which is very flaterring cut for pregnant women!

Links to this post Email this postNew York Fashion Week: Herve Leger Fall 2008
Wednesday, 6 February 2008
If you want a sexy dress, all the celebs know you have to wear Herve Leger! The famously form fitting dresses were worn by (from left to right) Amy Smart, Rose McGowan, Melissa George, Sophia Bush and Christina Milian to the Herve Leger by Max Azria Fall 2008 Show at New York Fashion Week.
My fav Herve Leger worn by the celebs had to be either Amy Smart's for the bold colour or Sophia Bush' for the traditional Herve Leger stripes and the way she accessorised it.
The Fall 2008 collection had the traditional stripes theme in autumnal tones and striking black and white.
There were some very daring and unusual designs, not for the faint hearted!
Soft neutral colours like peach, baby pink, cream and brown were used in many dresses which is a big Fall 2008 trend.
Some of my absolute favourite's were the clasic black dresses from the v-neck mini to the stunning knee-length dresses with ruffled skirts.
And then were the gowns. With the traditional Herve Leger fitted bodice that all the dresses have but with loose flattering skirts.
My favourites were the white gown with plunging neck line and the black one-shoulder gown with flower detail.
For those wondering how to wear your hair in the fall, the models in the Herve Leger collection wore their hair straight and dramatically side-parted like at most of the other Fall 2008 collections.

Sunday, 3 February 2008
I've decided to only report on my favourite collections from this weeks New York Fashion Week otherwise I'll never keep up, and the BCBG Fall 2008 Collection definitely fits the bill!
The collection was shown yesterday and Sophia Bush attended looking a little musmsy dare I say and letting me down with her outfit choice for the first time recently. The actress wore a knee-length floaty pink skirt and a peach wrap top.
Christina Milian looked cute in a backless silver dress and a silver necklace and Ana Oritz stayed simple in a cream knitted mini dress and black tights.
So now to the collection:
Tops were loose and unstructured, trousers were wide legged and skirts wereshort black and pocketed.
There was a gorgeous beige coat with a satin trim and a brown belt as well as a shorter dark grey jacket with the same belted waist.
Simple tunics in neutral tones in short or mid length styles looked effortlessly chic.
The hair was dramatically side swept and sleek.
Cream was a big colour trend and dresses were mini and either strapless or off-the-shoulder.I love the ruffled skirt on the strapless cream dress above left.
There were also deep rich autumnal colours like burgandy, petrol blue and mustard and shiny satin materials.
There were one shoulder dresses, classic LBDs and volumous mini skirts.
Not all dresses were short however, there were also nude coloured knee-length dresses both in floaty and structured styles.

Then there were the evening gowns which had quite a casual and laidback vibe about them in soft chiffons again with the signature tied brown waist belts that almost every outfit in the collection sported.

Links to this post Email this postNew York Fashion Week: Rachel Roy Fall 2008
Damon Dash's wife Rachel Roy debuted her Fall 2008 collection at the beginning of New York Fashion Week and I have to say it's kinda cool!
Rachel isn't just a woman who married a rich and famous man whose celebrity status allowed her to go into fashion, she's been working in the industry for years before she even met him.
I love her orange and lime satin skirts, particularly how she contrasted the shine of the orange skirt with a grey tweed top.
Her dresses were belted or with bows around the waist to give a sophisticated shape. I also love the Native American influence in her designs - very unique.
She also featured some cropped jackets with contrasting belts which were cute.
But one of my favourite parts of her collection had to be the fabulous coats! I love the print funnel neck coat (above left) and the classic black coat (above right) with contratsing brown belt and delicate flower detail.
