The 2008 Annual CDFA Awards - My Top 10!

Wednesday, 4 June 2008

So it was very difficult to choose just 10 outfits I liked from The 2008 Annual CDFA Awards which were held on Monday, but somehow I've managed it!

Here are my favourite 10 as worn by the most stylish of celebrities, models and designers!

I didn't know what to think of Maggie Gyllenhaal's Proenza Schouler outfit, which I placed at number 10, but I was certainly drawn to it! I felt like I shouldn't like it as the trousers look like MC Hammer cast-offs and the top was green and black check and shapeless............but somehow I like it! Crazy.

It's very unique and Maggie-ish and the shoes are divine! I think she's got a strong enough personality to carry this look. And fashion is all about making statements and experimenting!

At 9 is Eva Mendes who looks pretty in a white Calvin Klein Resort 2008 gown with nude peep toes. The dress was very simple though and I like a little more impact at events like the CDFA Awards.

One of my favourite up and coming models, Chanel Iman, is at number 8. She may be young but her sense of style is flawless so far. Her navy gown is the first of three navy gowns to make my top 10 so this is definitely a trend! I loved the high-neck and how her shoulders and back are shown off and the train is so glam!

At number 7 is the second navy blue gown, as worn by Mandy Moore. Her strapless Abaete gown has such a clean and simple cut but the white piping on the bodice adds some interest and it fits her so well. I think she should have put all her hair up though.

You can always count on Victoria Beckham to make a fashion statement, and that she did at the CDFA Awards which landed her at number 6 on my best dressed list! I loved her one shouldered, black Marc Jacobs mini dress covered in heart shaped ruffles. How cute!

The sash around the waist kept the look defined and I love that she left the clown make-up at home this time and went for a more natural look. And the best part of all is the way Victoria works it!

At 5 is the first designer to make the list, Tory Burch, who wore one of her own designs, a gorgeous hot pink gown with an absolutely amazing statement necklace. She did win Accessory Designer of the Year don't you know?!

I also love navy blue with hot pink and she was carrying a navy clutch. The dress is a simple shape but her use of colour is great and she really does know how to accessorise. She deserved the award!

At 4 is the chic half of the Olsen duo, Ashley Olsen who bucked the trend for gowns and made a huge impact in a beautifully feminised Calvin Klein Resort 2009 tuxedo. It's also lovely to see the roots of her hair done for a change and her hair brushed into a sleek, centre-parted do.

I think she looked great! And she certainly stood out.

At 3 is the beautiful (and not very pregnant looking, despite rumours a few months ago) Paula Patton, actress and wife of blue eyed soul singer Robin Thicke. She was wearing a gorgeous black and white floral, one-shouldered gown from the Michael Kors Spring 2008 Collection.

This look is classic but it was kept up to date with the accessories; a yellow clutch, skinny black waist belt and large diamond earrings. I also love her acid bright nail polish - spices things up dontcha think?

At number 2, looking incredibly glamorous and sleek, is Kim Cattrall who wore a draped, navy blue Monique Lhuillier Fall 2008. This ranked highest on my list of all the navy gowns because I loved the dramatic jewelled one-shoulder and the whole look was so sophisticated and classy on her.

No sign of the cheap and sometimes tacky Samantha!

And at the top of the list is a lady who knows a thing or two about fashion, talented Marchesa designer, Georgina Chapman!

Georgina may work behind the scenes of the fashion industry but the British designer is stunning enough to compete with all the models and celebs at the event! She wore one of her own Marchesa designs, a striking red shift dress with ruffled sleeves and a high neck, with matching red satin pumps.

The fitted shape of the dress looked great on her, as did the bold colour and with her black hair and pale skin, it was visually dramatic. I loved the sparkly clutch and I think she looked even better than actress Lake Bell, who has previously worn this design too.

OMG Whose Style Was Better?! - Penelope vs Eva

Monday, 21 April 2008

Both ladies speak Spanish, both are gorgeous A list actresses, both have fabulous style, but this past week, whose style was better??

Penelope Cruz, who turns 34 next week, wore the very popular current style of a black pencil skirt with a contrasting tucked in blouse to a photocall for her new movie Elegy in Madrid last week. Her blouse was in the trendy purple colour and she accessorised with simple black peep toes.

Penelope's gorgeous dark hair looked bouncy, shiny and lovely!

Eva Mendes on the other hand, who turned 34 last month, wore a floaty leopard print dress to the 2008 Comic Con Party for The Spirit in NYC last week. She also accessorised with black peep toes and a simple black clutch.

Leopard print can look harsh, but with the soft chiffon material of the dress and Eva's delicate updo, it looked very chic and pretty.

But whose style do you think was better??

For me personally, I'd have to go with Eva because her dress is very young and feminine looking, and stylish at the same time. However, I prefer Penelope's shoes and her hair and skin look so shiny and healthy that it draws me to her! So maybe it's actually a tie?

What do you think??

OMG I Spot a Trend! - Acid Brights For Spring

Friday, 29 February 2008

Are the blacks and greys of winter getting you down? Well just look forward to the acid brights that are on trend for fashion this Spring!

Many celebs have already started encorporating bold neon colours into their outfits recently either in the main item, or as an accent colour.

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon stood out at the Essence Magazine Luncheon last week wearing a bright green belted coat. I have no idea what, if anything was underneath! But this would look equally fab over jeans or plain dresses.

Sophia Bush also went for the all over look with her bright orange strapless dress at Global Green USA's pre-Oscar Party recently. She demonstrates exactly how to wear brights for the new season in order to be on trend - contrasted with a dull, neutral colour like the grey band on the dress and the grey shoes.

Rihanna made a bold and fun statement with her hot pink skinny jeans that she wore whilst bowling with friends in London last week. This look is sure to get you attention! Rihanna avoided looking like a clown by keeping everything else sleek and sophisticated with a black vest and cropped blazer.

If you don't like too much colour, or are not feeling brave enough, do like Eva Mendes did at the 2008 Film Independent's Spirit Awards in Santa Monica recently by using a bright colour as an accent. Eva wore all over grey (shift dress, tights, ankle boots) but made the outfit something special with a bright yellow clutch. It transforms the look!

It's Red Carpets Everywhere She Goes!

Friday, 11 January 2008

Eva Mendes was at JFK airport on Tuesday and the actress looked gorgeous as she strutted down the red carpet with her suitcase wearing a grey knee length skirt, navy jumper, nude pumps and chic white scarf.

Hold up! Red carpet?! I don't get that kind of treatment when I travel?!

Ahhh the lives of the rich and famous eh?

A Little Bit Savile Row, A Little Bit Rock and Roll - Designer Jay Godfrey Talks About His Latest Collection and Gives Us a Sneak Peak!

Wednesday, 9 January 2008

Have you heard of Jay Godfrey? If you haven’t yet, trust me when I say you’ll know his name soon! Jay is an up and coming fashion designer from Toronto and now based in New York, whose sexy and youthful dresses have been a hit with Hollywood’s hottest stars.

Recognised for his signature one shoulder dresses and bows, Jay can count Hayden Panettiere, Gabrielle Union, Eva Mendes and Carmen Electra among the celebrities who are already fans of his cocktail dresses and full length gowns.

OMG I Love Her Style has a sneak peak at his incredible Spring 2008 Collection and a fabulous interview with the man himself. Check it out!:

Q: Hi Jay, first of all I want to say I love your designs! There have been so many questions I’ve been dying to ask you! Firstly, I was wondering how you got into fashion in the first place, since you started out in finance! Was it always a passion of yours?

A: I’ve always loved fashion. While my colleagues in investment banking were reading the Wall Street Journal, I was reading Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. One day, after 14 months in finance, I decided “enough was enough” and I left Solomon Smith Barney to pursue my dream of designing. I enrolled in Parson, interned at Oscar de la Renta, started my own label. I’m the perfect example of what can happen when you set out to follow your dreams and then they start coming true.

Vanessa Hudgens wearing a stunning Jay Godfrey gown

Q: You definitely are! With your success, you’ve had the opportunity to dress so many beautiful and famous women, what epitomises a Jay Godfrey woman to you?

A: The Jay Godfrey woman is confident, strong, and sexy. She’s fashion-forward and never afraid of taking calculated risks.

Q: Sounds like many of the celebs you've dressed! Is there a celebrity you haven’t dressed yet who you’d love to see in one of your designs?

A: I would love to dress Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz and Queen Rania of Jordan.

Angelina Jolie (left), Queen Rania of Jordan (middle) and Cameron Diaz (right)

Q: Interesting choices. Which young starlet do you think we should all be watching out for as a future fashion icon? Who’s style do you love right now?

A: Diane Kruger, Charlotte Casiraghi, and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld (left), Charlotte Casiraghi (middle) and Diane Kruger (right)

Q: So many young people look up to the celebrities who wear your clothes as fashion icons, but who is your fashion icon?

A: David Bowie, Tommy Nutter, Keith Richards, and Karl Lagerfeld… I can never chose just one.

Iconic Chanel Fashion Designer Karl Lagerfeld

Q: How would you describe your own personal style? How do you like to dress?

A: A little bit Savile Row, a little bit Rock and Roll.

Q: Very cool. Who or what would you say inspires your collections?

A: I take inspiration from old photographs, exotic landscapes or places, as well as the treatment of color and surfaces in other art forms like interior design. I also look to great architects like Richard Serra and sculptors like Santiago Calatrava. Finally, I take cues from trend-setting confident and sexy women like my wife, Dara.

Q: That's so sweet! How long does it take you to create an entire collection, from conception to the runway? And how long before a season are you thinking about what that collection will be like?

A: It takes about three months to create an entire collection. I start by sketching. I let the sketches sit for a few days and then I go back and edit. The designs I select at this point usually make it into the final collection. We sample the pieces, take appointments with buyers, and ship to stores a few months later.

Being a designer is a 24-hour a day job. I am constantly thinking about new designs and the next season. It’s a lot less regimented than one would think.

Q: Sounds like an interesting job. I’ve seen your Spring 2008 Collection and it’s so fun and feminine, what styles do you think fashionistas should be stocking up on now to be ahead of the pack for next season?

Orange Ombre Drop Waist Short Dress - Jay Godfrey Spring 2008

A: Ombre fabrics, anything with zippered trim, silhouettes that show off the new erogenous zone: the shoulder.

Sarah Michelle Gellar (left), Minka Kelly (middle) and Ginnifer Goodwin (right) all wearing Jay Godfrey

Q: You are famous for the one shoulder dresses! I’ve fallen in love with your scratch-print shift dress as well as your white strapless bow dress, but which are your favourite pieces from your Spring 2008 Collection?

Scratch Print Shift Dress (left and middle) and White Strapless Bow Dress (right) both from the Jay Godfrey Spring 2008 Collection

A: My favorites are the Jackson Pollack scratch-print party dress and the zipper shift dress.

Q: As for this season, what is your favourite fashion trend for autumn/winter 2007-2008?

A: Bold color.

Petra Nemcova (left and right) and Brittany Snow (middle) both wearing Jay Godfrey dresses

Q: And is there a trend you hate and want to banish?!

A: Flats for evening.

Q: Ha ha! Better get those heels out girls! Do you have any advice for any budding young designers who may be reading this and wondering how to get into the fashion industry?

A: Start simple and build from there. Become good at one thing before you become good at many.

Q: And finally, your star has risen so quickly since you launched you first collection two years ago, what’s next for you? What can we expect to see from you in the future? Do you any exciting new projects coming up?

Zoe Saldana (left), Vanessa Hudgens (middle) and Katherine McPhee (right) all wearing Jay Godfrey

A: I am expanding the collection to include contemporary separates and day dresses for Fall 2009. Eventually, I would love to get into other categories such as accessories.

Thank you so much for your time Jay, it truly has been an honour! I’d like to wish you the best of luck in the future and I look forward to seeing the next collection of Jay Godfrey designs.

If you’d like to get your hands on a Jay Godfrey design, they can be found at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and Intermix stores as well as high-end boutique stores in the United States, Canada, Asia and Germany.

OMG I Love Her Style's Most Stylish Celebs of 2007!

Tuesday, 8 January 2008

This post may be a little late, but I took it very seriously so I wanted to take my time! Anyway, as we head into a new year of celeb style, here is my list of the best dressed celebs of 2007!

Jennifer Lopez is just my all time icon, so of course she has to be on the list! In 2007 she transitioned from her usual fabulous style to fabulous pregnancy style effortlessly, except for a minor glitch in the early pregnancy days! She is the most glamorous diva in Hollywood!

Maggie Grace is a new favourite style icon of mine. She has a different take on things to most young stars and loves vintage. I think she's quite creative with fashion, and going from blonde to brunette was the best thing she ever did!

Kerry Washington is a classic beauty who takes chances with fashion but keeps her overall looks simple. I loved some of the dresses she wore in 2007 and she is definately one of my favourite style inspirations.

Kate Bosworth has the looks and body of a model and manages to dress young and funky whilst still somehow looking timeless. I love the things she wore in 2007, but they wouldn't look like that on me!

Rihanna was my fav red carpet vixen this year! The singer wore a number of sexy fitted dresses and outshone her fellow celebs at many glam events.

The super sweet and adorable Rachel Bilson was the queen of everyday casual style in 2007. Whilst it's difficult to be as daring with fashion on the streets as you can be on a red carpet, Rachel always looked stylish, inspiring and put together. And of course cuuuuute!

Eva Mendes always surprises me style wise. In 2007 she sported so many different looks from classic ladylike to sexy and bold. She makes the cut for being a fashion chameleon!

Halle Berry has such simple taste in fashion. She sticks to basics and clean cut lines, but makes them look beautiful. With her new pregnancy in 2007, nothing changed and she made maternity chic look easy!

Thandie Newton makes the list for being my best dressed Brit of 2007. She wore so many fabulous designer dresses in 2007 and looked stylish and fresh, without religiously folowing trends. Plus she's just gorgeous isn't she!

Petra Nemcova is my best dressed and all round favourite model of 2007. I think she's a great person but more importantly (kidding!) she has fantastic style. Being a model, it's not surprising everything looks good on her, but what I like about Petra is she always looks well put together, even just walking down the street!

Kylie Minogue stepped up her style game in 2007 and became my best dressed pop star. She exudes a natural glamour whether she's wearing a cocktail dress, a beach dress, or turn ups and a cardigan!

Brittany Snow makes the list for the best use of colour in 2007. The actress sure knows how to stun on the red carpet in a variety of bold dresses. And it's not just the colour! The styles she picks are always interesting and fab too.

Big Brother 8 (US) runner-up Daniele Donato makes the list for being my most stylish reality tv star of 2007! The gorgeous blonde was my favourite contestant as much for her ability to win challenges and be strategic as for her fashion sense. She was by far the most (and probably only) fashionable person in the house! She has a unique and natural sense of what looks good on her and keeps things interesting.

Vanessa Hudgens has been without a doubt the most popular star on this blog in 2007! Will the trend continue in 2008? Probably! Vanessa makes the list as my most stylish teenager of 2007 though she is far more fabulous than many older celebs too. I admire that she understands what suits her so well at the young age of 18 and I'm excited to see her style develop further in 2008.

And finally we have Blake Lively who is my most stylish "one to watch" in 2008. Last year was a great year for Blake who saw her hit programme Gossip Girl take off and become the new "fashionable" show. Her fashion choices stood out from those of her co-stars this past year and I think she is definately one to watch! Will she make my list in 2008??

So tell me, who were your most fashionable celebs of 2007? Do you agree or disagree with my choices??

Eva the Diva!

Monday, 31 December 2007

No not the America's Next Top Model contestant! The fantabulous Eva Mendes who was at the unveiling of her new holiday advert for PETA on December 20th.

The talented star looked as fierce as Tyra Banks herself wearing a red tunic dress and a pair of seriously hot thigh high boots!

By keeping covered up and wearing a loose fitting dress, Eva manages not to look cheap and tacky in the boots. She's so glamorous!

OMG What Is She Wearing?! - The Biggest Fashion Disaster of the Week?? (So Far!)

Thursday, 13 December 2007

Left is British socialite Tara Palmer Tomkinson at the Premier of Mischa Barton's new movie, St Trinians in London on Monday.

A guess she came as a St Trinians school girl?? Clever Tara. You really got us there! Oh and the Union Jack bag is a real classy touch.

More pics

Brit super model Naomi Campbell (middle) looked well past her sell-by date at the Led Zeppelin Concert also on Monday, wearing some weird furry thing around her neck and another on her head.

Wonder if she bumped into Evan and Marilyn? When are these women gonna grow up and get a clue??

More pics

And finally, I love this woman so I feel bad for lumping her in with these other two, but a fashion disaster is a disaster whoever wears it!

Eva Mendes (right) looked like she'd been tangoed in the odd, shapeless, orange dress she wore to The Unveiling of the 2008 Campari Tales Calendar in Miami on Saturday. Was the inspiration a prison jumpsuit?

More pics

All these looks are pretty tragic, but which is the worst?? I'm gonna say Eva's because I expect so much more from her. Tara and Naomi are basically National jokes these days so this is no surprise!

OMG I Spot a Trend - Silver and Gold

Friday, 7 December 2007

Silver and gold metallic dresses and tops are being sported by all the trendiest celebs at the moment, and is definately a look you should adopt for all those fab parties and nights out over Christmas and New Year!

Eva Mendes (far left), Mischa Barton (second left) and Petra Nemcova (second right) all shone in their metallic dresses for the Dolce & Gabbana party in NYC on Tuesday.

For ladylike Eva, a light gold knee-length dress with black jewels under the bust line was the perfect classy way to wear metallics.

More pics

Funky Mischa wore a loose silver mini dress with black opaque tights and Christian Louboutin Mad Mary Jane's. She finished her quirky look with an embroidered across-the-body bag and a mustard coloured coat. Plus, how fab does her darker hair look!

More pics

Meanwhile, Petra went for full on sexy glam in a fitted, sequined, silver dress with a bow around the waist and a matching bag. The silver looked stunning next to Petra's tan and the girl sure knows how to strike a pose!

More pics

My fav Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester (far right) wore a gypsy style, strapless gold dress with black strappies to the 11th Annual Teddy Bear Ball on Monday. With her soft romantic updo, Leighton looked so pretty!

More pics

Finally, if you don't wanna wear a dress but still wanna do the metallic trend, check out Heidi Klum (middle) at the Inside Project Runway event in Beverly Hills on Tuesday. The supermodel wore a silver sequined vest top with skinny jeans and patent black courts and threw a black tailored blazer and skinny neck scarf over the top for a hip fashionista look. I'm looking for a blazer just like this! It has such a perfect fit and I love the rolled up sleeves fora casual edge.

More pics

So get out and shine in metallics!

OMG Whose Style Was Better?? Kate Hudson v Eva Mendes

Tuesday, 4 December 2007

Kate Hudson and Eva Mendes were both at the Opening of the New Dolce & Gabbana yesterday, but who do you think had the better style??

Kate looked very hippyish (and a lot like her mother Goldie!) in a cute white shift dress, which she slightly ruined in my opinion with a white fur coat and knee high brown boots. The boots are nice but not dressy enough for the event, she woulda looked better in courts, and I hate fur! She kept her make-up natural and wore her hair wavy and centre parted as usual, which looked gorgeous.

Eva on the other hand looked more sophisticated in a pleated, black satin skirt and a tucked in, embellished gold vest. Metallics are a huge trend right now! She accessorised with pointy black courts and oversized gold rings and also kept her make-up simple and hair soft.

Eva wins this one for me!

Eva Mendes in Metallics at "We Own the Night" Photocall

Friday, 30 November 2007

Beautiful actress Eva Mendes looked radiant in a little silver dress at a photocall for her up coming movie, "We Own the Night" earlier today.

Eva matched her high-necked silver, patterned dress, with metallic silver shoes and silvery eye make-up. Metallics are a huge trend this season don't ya know?! And for those who wanna be different to the herd in their gold, silver's the perfect cool option.

Volumes

Monday, 15 October 2007

The sexy Eva Mendes was showing us all how hot volumous clothes can be in her drape sleeved, patterned dress at The Sauce in NYC on Wednesday. Even her hair had volume with her gorgeous waves!

Eva counteracted the volume of the sleeves with the clinched in waist belt and snazzed up the whole look with bright gold shoes.

Eva Mendes Goes Back to the 70s

Saturday, 30 June 2007

Eva Mendes is definatly giving me the 70s vibe in this outfit. High waisted, flaired jeans, flicked out hair, a cute, fitted, vintage logo tee and leather satchel.

I love 70s style and Eva pulls it off perfectly. That little gadget of hers is definatly a lil more modern though. I wonder what she's listening to?
