OMG I Spot A Trend! - Black and White Dresses

Wednesday, 19 March 2008

Jay Godfrey featured some gorgeous black and white dresses in his Spring 2008 Collection, one was even worn by starlet Kristen Bell. Since then, many other starlets have been photographed in a range of little black and white dresses and it's beginning to become a trend!

Katie Holmes wore a black and white check draped Alexander McQueen dress to the Essence Magazine Luncheon last month. She added a dash of subtle colour with purple peep toes and looked uber sophisticated.

Ashanti was at 106 & Park last month where she wore a v-neck black and white check dress. The peep hole and the pencil shape of the dress made it look sexy as did the black platforms and waist belt. I love how her hot pink lip gloss pops next to the monochrome outfit!

Showing that check isn't the only wear to do the black and white dress trend, Australian actress Rose Byrne wore a feminine black and white print dress to the Red Bull Season Launch Party in Melbourne, Australia last week. This is my fav black and white dress! It's so floaty and pretty.

I love love love her metallic pink skinny waist belt and matching clutch not to mention her gorgeous round toe black pumps. I wish she would have brushed her hair though!

Cold Case star Kathryn Morris wore a printed black and white dress earlier this month to the Alliance for Children's Rights Awards Gala. The shift dress had an inbuilt black buckle belt detail around the waist. Kathryn brightened up the look with red lipstick and matching pointed red courts for a bold look.

Finally, Naomi Watts wore a strappy black and white dress whilst appearing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last week and looked super stylish. The A-lister accessorised with a skinny black waist belt and gorgeous strappy black shoes. She kept everything else simple and looked beautiful!

I love the black and white trend and I think Rose and Katie pulled it off best by managing to make it look soft and chic.

What do you think of the trend??

OMG I Spot a Trend! - Acid Brights For Spring

Friday, 29 February 2008

Are the blacks and greys of winter getting you down? Well just look forward to the acid brights that are on trend for fashion this Spring!

Many celebs have already started encorporating bold neon colours into their outfits recently either in the main item, or as an accent colour.

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon stood out at the Essence Magazine Luncheon last week wearing a bright green belted coat. I have no idea what, if anything was underneath! But this would look equally fab over jeans or plain dresses.

Sophia Bush also went for the all over look with her bright orange strapless dress at Global Green USA's pre-Oscar Party recently. She demonstrates exactly how to wear brights for the new season in order to be on trend - contrasted with a dull, neutral colour like the grey band on the dress and the grey shoes.

Rihanna made a bold and fun statement with her hot pink skinny jeans that she wore whilst bowling with friends in London last week. This look is sure to get you attention! Rihanna avoided looking like a clown by keeping everything else sleek and sophisticated with a black vest and cropped blazer.

If you don't like too much colour, or are not feeling brave enough, do like Eva Mendes did at the 2008 Film Independent's Spirit Awards in Santa Monica recently by using a bright colour as an accent. Eva wore all over grey (shift dress, tights, ankle boots) but made the outfit something special with a bright yellow clutch. It transforms the look!

Fringes - The Hottest Hair Trend!

Since seeing the drastic effect Rachel Bilson's new fringe has had on her whole look, I'm once again considering getting a fringe. I do this all the time. Get a fringe, spend ages growing it out, then decide to get another fringe!

Anyway, so many celebs are sporting different kinds of fringes right now so here's a look at a few that might inspire you to go for the chop!

Camilla Belle, seen at the 10,000 B.C. Berlin Premiere on Tuesday, is currently sporting a full fringe with curved edges, blended into her long, polka straight, layered locks.

Both sisters Kidada (left) and Rashida Jones, seen at the Essence Luncheon in Hollywood last week, are sporting bangs right now. Kidada's gone for the long, thick side-swept fringe while younger sister Rashida has opted for a a delicate fringe that falls just above her eyes.

For a dramatic look that hits two current hair trends, take inspiration from Christina Ricci's bold bob and fringe combo. The actress sported her sleek bob and blunt bangs whilst at TRL on Wednesday.

Are you more of a boho babe than a sleek lady? Try Kate Moss's long laidback fringe and messy shoulder-length hair, seen on her whilst out in Primrose Hill on Monday.

Curly girls feeling left out? Don't! If you have naturally curly hair but still wanna try the fringe look, full curls and a heavy straight fringe can provide a cool contrast for brave fashionistas, a la Janet Jackson at TRL on Tuesday. The look is very retro and not for the faint-hearted! Plus you're gonna need to straighten your fringe daily to maintain the look.

And finally for a really trendy chic look, try copying Helena Christensen's layered side-swept bangs and heavily layered hair, as seen at The Other Boleyn Girl Dinner Celebration in NYC on Tuesday. This look is versatile and can be styled for an edgy, rockstar look as well as feminine and pretty thanks to all the layers.

I recommend giving it a lot of thought before cutting a fringe in though! Once it's cut it takes ages to grow out so don't make any rushed decisions and make sure you have a good hair dresser!

Best Looks of Essence Magz Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon

Thursday, 28 February 2008

L-R: Rashida Jones, Gabrielle Union and Jada Pinkett

Last week, Essence Magazine began a new tradition of holding an Annual Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon in Beverly Hills attended by many gorgeous celebs.

I don't know how I feel about this. Whilst being Welsh I understand wanting to "honour" your own community, especially when you feel the "mainstream" under value or ignore many of your stars, but this also stinks of reverse racism to me. It's one of those "if it was a White Women in Hollywood Luncheon it anger many people so why is it ok for another race to do"? You know? While I am a very opinionated person, I'm on the fence with this as I can see both sides of the coin. What do you all think??

Well regardless of the politics and all that, there's no denying that some of the ladies who attended looked fab!

Gabrielle Union was very sexy in a flirty strapless LBD. The back on this dress just made it! It had one strap across the top and was then open - so hot!

Quincy's daughters Rashida and Kidada were both at the event, and Rashida looked stylish in a burgandy one shoulder dress with a black sash around the waist. The frills on the sleeve are so trendy right now!

But my favourite was Jada Pinkett who attended with doting hubby Will Smith and looked stunning in a vintage Nina Ricci maxi dress. The cream and red spotted halter neck looked so bright and summer, it was a lovely change. And the brown belt and gold bracelets added a cute bohemian vibe. Will sure loved it, he was all over her!
