2008 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala - Black and White
Tuesday, 13 May 2008
Queen of glam, Dita von Teese, wore an eye-catching strapless white gown with black embroidery from the Marchesa Fall 2008 Collection. The beautiful creation also had a white feathered hem. It was very much in Dita's style and looked great with her peeled skin and red lips.
Naomi Watts on the other hand transformed herself in a pleated, all-white, halter neck gown by Theirry Mulger with old Hollywood blond curls and red lipstick. How Marilyn of her?!
I didn't even recognise her at first but she looked amazing in the bright white and the jewelled star detail was very unique. I like the fact that her gown and whole look was unlike anyone elses.
But my absolute favourite (probably of the whole night!!) was Emmy Rossum's fitted, floral, black and white Phi gown. The fitted basque style top and fishtail skirt were so sexy and yet the floral design and black waist sash were sophisticated. It's trendy but at the same time classic and in it, Emmy looked very classy.
Gooooorgeous! Can you tell I love the dress yet?!
She wore her hair curly as usual but a little sleeker than her everyday style and it looked great. Emmy accessorised with a simple black clutch and delicate silver necklaces.

Ms Dita Von Teese was at Writing Time, Robert Wilson's watch launch gala in Geneva on Wednesday looking absolutely stunning in a white halter-neck Amanda Wakeley gown with silver embellished waist band and neck tie.
The Queen of glam. No doubt.

L-R: Ashanti, Fergie, Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood
The 2008 Grammy Awards are tonight and I can't wait! But in the mean while, the hottest pre-Grammy party had to be the one thrown by music mogul Clive Davis in Beverly Hills yesterday!
One of the best dressed in my opinion was Carrie Underwood who looked gorgeous in a black and white layered strapless dress with a black bow worn with strappy black shoes.
I also loved Ashanti's fun and flirty black halter neck dress with a hot pink waist belt and matching pink peep toes. Unfortunatley Ashanti's hair ruined the look as it looked like she'd left in a curler or something!?
The American Idol girls continued to do well with Jordin Sparks looking great in a leopard print shift dress with a black waist band that defined her waist and gave her a fantastic shape.
And finally, looking amazing in colour was Fergie-licious in a feminine purple gown with an artistic floral print. I do love when Fergie sports pretty, softer looks to counteract her scary eyebrows and hard face! Mean, I know.
L-R: Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, Dita Von Teese and Zhang Ziyi
I also thought Alica Keys looked lovely in a strapless cream and brown spotty gown, especially with her sleek straight hair.
Also in a neutral colour was Taylor Swift who went simple in a strappy cream babydoll dress which I think would have looked better with better shoes and less make-up.
Dita Von Teese stuck to her signature look in a gorgeous white Christian Dior Spring 2008 suit with beading and flower detail and finally the daring Zhang Ziyi looked surprisingly good in an unusual yellow dress. I think the matching yellow shoes are a step too far though!

Friday, 1 February 2008
Jean Paul Gautier's Spring 2008 Couture Collection was shown at Paris Fashion Week last week and fashion week regulars Dita Von Teese and Blake Lively were both there.
Dita made a statement in a red check belted coat and a sequined berret whilst Blake looked great in a navy velvet high waisted skirt and a print blouse.
There were many skirt suits on show in plain and print materials. The jackets were slim fitting and the skirts were fitted with flared bottoms.
There were also gorgeously tailored trouser suits with wide legged trousers and jackets with cropped sleeves. My personal favourite was the pin striped one though they were all great!
Other featured items were a black top with sheer panel, a floral print maxi dress and a fitted white waistcoat with matching trousers.
There were casual dresses with large flared sleeves and strappy minis.
The model's hair was worn covered in hair grease with fringes slicked across foreheads.
There were also beautiful but edgy evening dresses, my favourite being the black and cream dress with one sheer shoulder.
The gowns were highly structured and detailed in a dark gold colour or jet black and all were curve hugging. Feathers, lace and velvet were used to give a luxurious effect.
The entire collection was full of prints and dramatic materials so nothing was simple but it was all somehow very pulled together.

Thursday, 31 January 2008
If you love gowns and dresses the Elie Saab Spring 2008 Couture Show at Paris Fashion Week last week was the place to be! And that's exactly where Dita Von Teese was in her glamorous red dress and satin red shoes, where Eva LaRue was in a high waisted black skirt and satin purple top and where Melissa Theuriau showed up a little underdressed in jeans and a black velvet jacket.
Each woman however, embodied the luxury of Elie Saab!
Pencil skirt shapes continued to dominate but now with metallic silver beading and matching blazers or chiffon blouses.Hair was worn in high chignon's on top of the head.
As with the other runway shows, strapless dresses were popular, mostly seen in whites and silvers.
Most of the models wore black peep toes with gold trim.
Soft feminine shaped dresses with plunging v-necks and floaty skirts were also a trend.
It should also be noted that Elie Saab opted out of any jewelry or accessories and instead let the clothes take centre stage.
As I've mentioned before, matching seems to be the new clashing in fashion and so Elie Saab matched some of their strapless pencil dressed with coordinated cropped cardigans for a prim and proper look.
The largest collection of peices on the Elie Saab Couture runway however had to be the gowns! There were so many to choose from! There were the metallic sheen gowns with the high slits at the front of the dress showing off the leg...
Then there were the yellow chiffon gowns each with silver detailing and a varitey of different necklines from strapless to one-strap.
Bright coloured gowns could also be seen in pink and blue and again strapless had to be the biggest trend.
Each gown was cut simply but with a distinguishing feature such as a feathered neckline or silver embrodiery.
The metallic beaded gowns were reminiscent of the flapper era and were worn in sleek silhouettes.
And finally were the beautiful white gowns that came at the end of the collection. Each had the silver embroidery that was the common thread through this collection but style's varied.
I loved the strapless peasant style gown with floaty skirt (above right) and the sleek sexy strapless gown (above middle).
But my favourite has to be the dramatic one-shoulder white gown with structured bodice and full chiffon skirt (above left).

Wednesday, 23 January 2008
Dita Von Teese continued her rounds at Paris Fashion Week and headed over to see the Christian Lacroix Spring 2008 Couture Collection in black Lacroix trousers and a lace black bustier with puff sleeves.
Lacroix's collection was vibrant, exhilarating and incredibly detailed with tailored jackets, ombre tights, black and white check platform sandals, print materials, lace panels, neck scarves and embroidery. Whew!
Skirts came in many different lengths from knee length to calf length and even maxi skirts however volume was a common theme.
Some of the most beautiful dresses were the delicate lace and chiffon ones seen in light airy cream, beige and gold tones and pretty feminine shapes.
As with the other couture shows at Paris Fashion Week, volume played a big role in many of the dresses as did off the shoulder cuts, puff sleeves and bright pink and blue colours.
The LBDs had fitted bodices, square necklines and cinched in waists with contrasting volumous skirts.
There was a flux of off-the-shoulder chiffon gowns in vibrant colours like green, red and maroon.
Some of the gowns were like pieces of art, such as the deep blue chiffon gown with a ruffled wave like skirt and the vibrant fuscia gown with gold embroidery in the shape of flowers.

The show closed with a range of incredibly over-the-top pure white gowns with huge fairytale princess style skirts, mesh overlays, flower prints and puff sleeves. It was like Disney weddings gone wild!

L-R: Claudia Schiffer, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively
Simple, classic and youthful, the Chanel Spring 2008 Couture show at Paris Fashion Week yesterday was my favourite so far and also had one of my favourite young celebs in attendance - Blake Lively!
Blake modernised 1920s flapper chic with her pleated blakc dress, long fine-knit grey cardigan and layered pearl necklaces. She finished the look with black tights and gorgeous black pumps.
Also at the event was fashionista Diane Kruger who wore a similar black Chanel Resort 2008 dress but with a halter neck top and bare legs. She added a fun touch with her yellow buckled Chanel Fall 2007 pumps and sequined bag.
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer rounded out the elite front row in a prim and proper puff skirt and bow detailed waist belt. She was also rocking black patent Christian Louboutin, Joli Noeud Dorcet 957 sandals.
The show it self was like under-the-sea ice princess full of whites, greys, blacks, silvers and peaches.
Short skirts came in many shapes, the most popular being the draped shell shaped skirts and the pleated ones.
Coats were thigh length with cropped sleeves and rounded collars. The look was soft but tailored with military style detailing.
All the models wore flat pumps in silver, black, white or black and white adding to the young look of the clothes.
There were plunging v-neck blazers with Parisian style brooches used as fasteners and sequins were used for sublte glamour.
A possible trend to replace last years leggings, was the skinny raw-edged crops worn on the knee with pretty long-length tops.
Chanel hit the trend for structured dresses perfectly with his strapless khaki dress, his silver sequined number with three tiered skirt and the strappy silver and white striped dress.
At the other extreme were the soft girly dresses with feathered edges in ivory and peach worn with sexy one shoulders or beautiful beaded details.
All the dresses were worn with sheer white or black tights.
The classic LBDs were modernised with draped skirts, bows, feathered edges and jewels. I adore the one pictured in the middle above!
The models wore their hair in dramatic updos with large quiffs and tiara style sequined bands.
Then came the gowns! There was the one shouldered, geometric shaped white gown that was cut mid-calf and the tiered black and white gown with stunning neckline.
But my favourites were the classic and glamorous black gowns. One was a strapless chiffon number with volumous skirt and feathered details that looked like it was made for the curves of Dita Von Teese, whilst the other was a strapless gown with structured bodice and sheer skirt and sleeves.

Tuesday, 22 January 2008
You want crazy over the top and fabulous Haute Couture?? Then the Christian Dior Spring 2008 Couture show is the one for you!
Glamazons Diane Kruger and Dita Von Teese dazzled the front row of the show in their sophisticated black ensembles. I loved Dita's lady-like dress with cinched in waist and Diane's zebra print pumps were fantastic!
The spectacular show was all about volume, structure and colour - oh and crazy head gear!
Strapless dresses with fitted bodices and volumous skirts were key in exquisite turquoises, yellows, pinks, purples and maroons.
As seems to be the trend this season, everything was matchy-matchy from the colour co-ordinated platform shoes and oversized earrings to the matching eye make-up.Coats were knee-length, bubble hemmed and very detailed and leather gloves were still a trend!
The gowns were simply stunning with volume either in fish-tails, around midrifs or in the entire dress. The embroidered gold detailing looked amazing.

And finally prints continued to dominate the runway from the leopard print gown with matching camel coloured gloves to the feminine vibe of the white, blue and pink printed volumous shift dress.
It was so crazy that is was just fab!

Links to this post Email this postOMG I Love Paris Fashion Week Spring 2008 Couture - Armani Prive
Celebs including Hilary Swank, Ellen Pompeo and Dita Von Teese showed up to preview the Armani Prive Spring 2008 Couture Collection yesterday at Paris Fashion Week, I bet they loved it as much as I did!
Hilary looked like a little girl in Mummy's clothes in her black floaty Armani Fall 2006 dress whilst Dita looked flawless and fierce in a navy blue Armani Prive Fall 2007 skirtsuit. Guest of honour Ellen wore a stunning black off-the-shoulder Armani Prive Fall 2007 dress that would have looked much better had it been a size smaller and had she worn her hair in a sleek updo.
The collection was bold in structures, materials and colours with plenty to offer.
Skirtsuits were very popular with some of my favourites being the black puff sleeved jacket and pencil skirt combo, the navy ensemble with plunging neckline and the navy and white skirtsuit with fitted jacket and bubble skirt.
Another theme was flouncy ruffled skirts in pearl organza or patterned chiffon. Oversized bold coloured bangles were a cool accessory trend.
Sexy curvacious jackets in bold prints looked fantastic on the runway with simple skirts and I particularly love the high collars.
Some of the dresses were gorgeously girly and wearable in nudes and whites. My favourite is the strappy ballerina inspired dress with ruffled skirt.Hair was worn in updos that were either slick and pulled back tightly or loose with side swept curls.
There were also more structured and strong looking dresses with puff ball skirts, large jewels and puff sleeves.
Some of the dresses were fabulously over-the-top as only Haute Couture can be!
My favourite part of the show had to be the gowns. There was the one shouldered silky white gown with silver detailing and the the strapless dusky pink ruffled gown both of which were beautiful.

But for all out glam it has to be either the one strap black gown with full chiffon skirt and detailed bodice, or, my personal fav, the sexy straples red gown with flamenco style ruffle skirt and black details on the bustier.

Thursday, 29 November 2007
The Best of British flaunted their stuff at The 2007 British Fashion Awards on Tuesday. Don't you love seeing your own doing well!
On the left we have Pearl Lowe and Gavin Rossdale's daughter (Gwen Stefani's step-daughter), Daisy Lowe, looking quirky and cool in a little gold, bandeau dress with sheer arms and legs with tattoo style detailing. I know most people will hate this but I think with Daisy's rock star hair and moody look, she pulls it off!Sienna Miller's big sis, fashion designer Savannah Miller (seen in the middle) looked cute in a cropped tuxedo jacket and a little cream summer dress. An interesting combo which I think looks smart and simple.
"Model of the Year" Agyness Deyn, right, stole the show in a black gown from the Giles Deacon Spring 2008 Collection. The long layered dress with sheer neckline looked amazing with her short platinum hair and smokey eyes!
George Clooney's ex and Britain's Next Top Model presenter Lisa Snowdon, left, looked adorable in a high-necked black lace dress, black tights and black patent courts. The all black look is simple and chic.
British actress Emilie Fox, middle, also looked very cute in a black and cream chiffon dress with black tights and a gorgeous black cropped jacket.
Statuesque model Erin O'Connor, right, looked stunning in a Marchesa Autumn 2007 gown. The black and white patterned maxi dress flowed perfectly and had a very delicate necline.
The ever gorgeous Thandie Newton wowed in an off-the-shoulder Giles Deacon dress from his Spring 2008 collection. The beautiful purple and grey dress was fitted at the top with a flattering A-line skirt and was worn with black court shoes. Thandie wore barely there make-up as usual (she doesn't need any!) and her hair was in a loose, half-up/half-down do.
British Rocker Rod Stewart's daughter Kimberly brought some glam rock style to the event in a geometric shaped, black bandeau mini dress, worn with black tights and black courts, as well as a shaggy platinum blonde bob and bright red lipstick.
Glamour puss Dita Von Teese didn't waver from her signature old-school glamour look. She wore a gold Marchesa Autumn 2007 dress, with a cowl neck and cinched in waist. I love the dress (though I prefer Jennifer Lopez's floor length version) but I don't like the colour on Dita's pale skin. As usual, Dita's hair and make-up was flawless.
Kelly Osbourne, wore a stunning floor length gown hitting not one but three current trends! The dress was in a shiny satin fabric, a stylish Autumn colour and had a very now, one strap. However I don't think it flatters Kelly's figure and makes her look a little butch. Her eye make-up is perfect (as is her skin as usual) but her hair looks a little like a wig! Fab black clutch though!
Lily Allen (left) was amongst many celebs wearing a Giles Spring 2008 dress, but the singer also showed up on the designer's arm for extra points! However I hate the sickly pink colour of this dress and while the bandeau top lookd great on Lily's fantastic new figure, I'm not sold on the big feathery skirt! How about you?? Her gold peep toes and her make-up are fab though!
And finally, British designer and Sir Paul's daugher, Stella McCartney, right, managed to get a break from the drama with her ex step-mother and focus on her passion for fashion for the night. But it seems the stress has gotten to her sense of style because I really don't think the black jumpsuit and blazer combo is at all flattering for her, and she really needs to do something with her hair! She did win "Designer of the Year" at the event though so I doubt she cares what I think of her outfit!

The amazing Dita Von Teese, seen left on her way to the Seventh on Sale event in New York last week, wore a stunning Marchesa, Spring 2008 gown.
The black, floor length gown has a fitted bodice, a full chiffon skirt and beautiful gold embroidery running down it.
The dress was worn on the runway by tall, slim, model Alana Zimmer, though I think Dita's curves fill out the dress perfectly, her shorter frame allows the dress to drape the floor and her own natural glamour sets it off perfectly.
Do you like it better on Dita or the model??

Links to this post Email this postTwo Different Kinds of Divas!
Sunday, 7 October 2007
Pale and mysterious diva, Dita Von Teese and tanned, blonde diva Victoria Beckham met at the Chanel Fashion Show at Paris Fashion Week on Friday.
Dita played up her pale skin and curves in a black pencil skirt and fitted black jacket with puffed sleeves and a skinny waist belt. Her jet black hair was set in old Hollywood style curls and she wore glam red lips and cat like eye make-up.
Posh Spice Victoria on the other hand showed off her tanned legs in a short green shift dress which had a flared skirt in order to create the illusion of curves on her tiny frame. I love the colour of the dress on her! Her angular blonde bob was straightened perfectly, her pout was painted in a brown gloss and she kept on her uniform oversized shades.
Both Divas kept accessories to a minimum and wore cut out, black peep toes.
