OMG I Love The SAG Awards! - Silver Gowns

Monday, 28 January 2008

L-R: Christina Applegate, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Pompeo and Brittany Snow

The 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held last night so we finally got to see all the big Hollywood stars come out in gorgeous designer gowns, after the Oscars were sadly cancelled earlier this month.

One of the biggest trends on the red carpet was sparkly silver gowns, which I loved!

Christina Applegate wore a light silver v-neck gown with layered skirt by Elie Saab with Neil Lane jewelry and bright red lips.

Beautiful French actress Marion Cotillard wore one of my absolute favourite dresses of the night, a strapless Nina Ricci gown with soft chiffon train with a delicate silver pendant by Chopard.

Ellen Pompeo chose a shiny silver strapless gown also by Nina Ricci from her Spring 2008 Collection which looked great with her hair in a sophisticated up do.

And Brittany Snow looked sexy in a silver sequined curve hugging gown and delicate drop earrings.

A Little Bit Savile Row, A Little Bit Rock and Roll - Designer Jay Godfrey Talks About His Latest Collection and Gives Us a Sneak Peak!

Wednesday, 9 January 2008

Have you heard of Jay Godfrey? If you haven’t yet, trust me when I say you’ll know his name soon! Jay is an up and coming fashion designer from Toronto and now based in New York, whose sexy and youthful dresses have been a hit with Hollywood’s hottest stars.

Recognised for his signature one shoulder dresses and bows, Jay can count Hayden Panettiere, Gabrielle Union, Eva Mendes and Carmen Electra among the celebrities who are already fans of his cocktail dresses and full length gowns.

OMG I Love Her Style has a sneak peak at his incredible Spring 2008 Collection and a fabulous interview with the man himself. Check it out!:

Q: Hi Jay, first of all I want to say I love your designs! There have been so many questions I’ve been dying to ask you! Firstly, I was wondering how you got into fashion in the first place, since you started out in finance! Was it always a passion of yours?

A: I’ve always loved fashion. While my colleagues in investment banking were reading the Wall Street Journal, I was reading Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. One day, after 14 months in finance, I decided “enough was enough” and I left Solomon Smith Barney to pursue my dream of designing. I enrolled in Parson, interned at Oscar de la Renta, started my own label. I’m the perfect example of what can happen when you set out to follow your dreams and then they start coming true.

Q: You definitely are! With your success, you’ve had the opportunity to dress so many beautiful and famous women, what epitomises a Jay Godfrey woman to you?

A: The Jay Godfrey woman is confident, strong, and sexy. She’s fashion-forward and never afraid of taking calculated risks.

Q: Sounds like many of the celebs you've dressed! Is there a celebrity you haven’t dressed yet who you’d love to see in one of your designs?

A: I would love to dress Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz and Queen Rania of Jordan.

Angelina Jolie (left), Queen Rania of Jordan (middle) and Cameron Diaz (right)

Q: Interesting choices. Which young starlet do you think we should all be watching out for as a future fashion icon? Who’s style do you love right now?

A: Diane Kruger, Charlotte Casiraghi, and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld (left), Charlotte Casiraghi (middle) and Diane Kruger (right)

Q: So many young people look up to the celebrities who wear your clothes as fashion icons, but who is your fashion icon?

A: David Bowie, Tommy Nutter, Keith Richards, and Karl Lagerfeld… I can never chose just one.

Iconic Chanel Fashion Designer Karl Lagerfeld

Q: How would you describe your own personal style? How do you like to dress?

A: A little bit Savile Row, a little bit Rock and Roll.

Q: Very cool. Who or what would you say inspires your collections?

A: I take inspiration from old photographs, exotic landscapes or places, as well as the treatment of color and surfaces in other art forms like interior design. I also look to great architects like Richard Serra and sculptors like Santiago Calatrava. Finally, I take cues from trend-setting confident and sexy women like my wife, Dara.

Q: That's so sweet! How long does it take you to create an entire collection, from conception to the runway? And how long before a season are you thinking about what that collection will be like?

A: It takes about three months to create an entire collection. I start by sketching. I let the sketches sit for a few days and then I go back and edit. The designs I select at this point usually make it into the final collection. We sample the pieces, take appointments with buyers, and ship to stores a few months later.

Being a designer is a 24-hour a day job. I am constantly thinking about new designs and the next season. It’s a lot less regimented than one would think.

Q: Sounds like an interesting job. I’ve seen your Spring 2008 Collection and it’s so fun and feminine, what styles do you think fashionistas should be stocking up on now to be ahead of the pack for next season?

Orange Ombre Drop Waist Short Dress - Jay Godfrey Spring 2008

A: Ombre fabrics, anything with zippered trim, silhouettes that show off the new erogenous zone: the shoulder.

Sarah Michelle Gellar (left), Minka Kelly (middle) and Ginnifer Goodwin (right) all wearing Jay Godfrey

Q: You are famous for the one shoulder dresses! I’ve fallen in love with your scratch-print shift dress as well as your white strapless bow dress, but which are your favourite pieces from your Spring 2008 Collection?

Scratch Print Shift Dress (left and middle) and White Strapless Bow Dress (right) both from the Jay Godfrey Spring 2008 Collection

A: My favorites are the Jackson Pollack scratch-print party dress and the zipper shift dress.

Q: As for this season, what is your favourite fashion trend for autumn/winter 2007-2008?

A: Bold color.

Petra Nemcova (left and right) and Brittany Snow (middle) both wearing Jay Godfrey dresses

Q: And is there a trend you hate and want to banish?!

A: Flats for evening.

Q: Ha ha! Better get those heels out girls! Do you have any advice for any budding young designers who may be reading this and wondering how to get into the fashion industry?

A: Start simple and build from there. Become good at one thing before you become good at many.

Q: And finally, your star has risen so quickly since you launched you first collection two years ago, what’s next for you? What can we expect to see from you in the future? Do you any exciting new projects coming up?

Zoe Saldana (left), Vanessa Hudgens (middle) and Katherine McPhee (right) all wearing Jay Godfrey

A: I am expanding the collection to include contemporary separates and day dresses for Fall 2009. Eventually, I would love to get into other categories such as accessories.

Thank you so much for your time Jay, it truly has been an honour! I’d like to wish you the best of luck in the future and I look forward to seeing the next collection of Jay Godfrey designs.

If you’d like to get your hands on a Jay Godfrey design, they can be found at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and Intermix stores as well as high-end boutique stores in the United States, Canada, Asia and Germany.

OMG I Love Her Style's Most Stylish Celebs of 2007!

Tuesday, 8 January 2008

This post may be a little late, but I took it very seriously so I wanted to take my time! Anyway, as we head into a new year of celeb style, here is my list of the best dressed celebs of 2007!

Jennifer Lopez is just my all time icon, so of course she has to be on the list! In 2007 she transitioned from her usual fabulous style to fabulous pregnancy style effortlessly, except for a minor glitch in the early pregnancy days! She is the most glamorous diva in Hollywood!

Maggie Grace is a new favourite style icon of mine. She has a different take on things to most young stars and loves vintage. I think she's quite creative with fashion, and going from blonde to brunette was the best thing she ever did!

Kerry Washington is a classic beauty who takes chances with fashion but keeps her overall looks simple. I loved some of the dresses she wore in 2007 and she is definately one of my favourite style inspirations.

Kate Bosworth has the looks and body of a model and manages to dress young and funky whilst still somehow looking timeless. I love the things she wore in 2007, but they wouldn't look like that on me!

Rihanna was my fav red carpet vixen this year! The singer wore a number of sexy fitted dresses and outshone her fellow celebs at many glam events.

The super sweet and adorable Rachel Bilson was the queen of everyday casual style in 2007. Whilst it's difficult to be as daring with fashion on the streets as you can be on a red carpet, Rachel always looked stylish, inspiring and put together. And of course cuuuuute!

Eva Mendes always surprises me style wise. In 2007 she sported so many different looks from classic ladylike to sexy and bold. She makes the cut for being a fashion chameleon!

Halle Berry has such simple taste in fashion. She sticks to basics and clean cut lines, but makes them look beautiful. With her new pregnancy in 2007, nothing changed and she made maternity chic look easy!

Thandie Newton makes the list for being my best dressed Brit of 2007. She wore so many fabulous designer dresses in 2007 and looked stylish and fresh, without religiously folowing trends. Plus she's just gorgeous isn't she!

Petra Nemcova is my best dressed and all round favourite model of 2007. I think she's a great person but more importantly (kidding!) she has fantastic style. Being a model, it's not surprising everything looks good on her, but what I like about Petra is she always looks well put together, even just walking down the street!

Kylie Minogue stepped up her style game in 2007 and became my best dressed pop star. She exudes a natural glamour whether she's wearing a cocktail dress, a beach dress, or turn ups and a cardigan!

Brittany Snow makes the list for the best use of colour in 2007. The actress sure knows how to stun on the red carpet in a variety of bold dresses. And it's not just the colour! The styles she picks are always interesting and fab too.

Big Brother 8 (US) runner-up Daniele Donato makes the list for being my most stylish reality tv star of 2007! The gorgeous blonde was my favourite contestant as much for her ability to win challenges and be strategic as for her fashion sense. She was by far the most (and probably only) fashionable person in the house! She has a unique and natural sense of what looks good on her and keeps things interesting.

Vanessa Hudgens has been without a doubt the most popular star on this blog in 2007! Will the trend continue in 2008? Probably! Vanessa makes the list as my most stylish teenager of 2007 though she is far more fabulous than many older celebs too. I admire that she understands what suits her so well at the young age of 18 and I'm excited to see her style develop further in 2008.

And finally we have Blake Lively who is my most stylish "one to watch" in 2008. Last year was a great year for Blake who saw her hit programme Gossip Girl take off and become the new "fashionable" show. Her fashion choices stood out from those of her co-stars this past year and I think she is definately one to watch! Will she make my list in 2008??

So tell me, who were your most fashionable celebs of 2007? Do you agree or disagree with my choices??

13th Annual Critics Choice Awards - Best and Worst!

The 13th Annual Critics Choice Awards were held in Santa Monica last night, and some of Hollywood's most stylish turned up at the event!

The beautiful Katie Holmes (left) continued her style evolution in this one-shoulder champagne Grecian dress from the Lanvin Spring 2008 Collection. She wore it with gold peep toes and her classic bob and looked chic.

Actress Emily Deschanel (middle) looked classy in a black belted wrap dress with gold embroidery on the shoulders worn with gorgeous black pumps and gold drop earrings.

Young comedienne Amanda Bynes looked better than ever in a purple Narcisco Rodriguez Spring 2008 mini dress with tie waist. I love the structured shape of this dress which is a departure from Amanda's usual floaty numbers which were starting to get a little boring. The colour looks fantastic and the bulky black clutch and black patent courts actually enhance the boldness of the dress.

Kathleen Robertson (left) looked quirky in a black velvet collared tunic and fishnet tights. I actually like this and I love her gold bag but I think her hair and make-up should have been worn a little more natural with this look.

Ellen Page (middle) was very safe with her black LBD, black peep toes and burgandy clutch. She looks nice in it but she could have been more daring with her hair, make-up and accessories to glam it up a bit.

Brittany Snow (right) made a valiant effort in a strapless turquoise dress and gold accessories. I love the colour (turquoise is actually my favourite!) but think it would have looked more elegant with more subtle accessories.

And finally is the supremely boring Angelina Jolie. I don't usually write about this woman as she rarely does anything interesting with her style despite being very beautiful.

The Critics Choice Awards were no exception as the mother of four covered up whatever dull black dress she was wearing with an even more predictable belted black mac. Her hair and make-up looked the exact same as always, and not even her shoes were interesting! Bla bla bla.

The 19th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala Style Round-up!

Sunday, 6 January 2008

The veteran film stars were leading the style pack at the 19th Annual Palm Springs IFF Awards Gala yesterday. A listers Halle Berry (left), Helen Hunt (middle) and Drew Barrymore (right) showed the up and coming starlets how it's done!

Halle skimmed over her baby bumb with this layered Temperley 2008 Resort LBD. The subtle gold grecian detail on the dress is enough to make it interesting whilst still looking simple and chic, and matches her gold snakeskin Rickard Shah "Valentina" clutch perfectly. The baby's due next month, I can't wait!

Helen Hunt looked stunning in her black dress with fitted top and full taffeta skirt. She accessorised with a skinny hot pink waist belt to spice things up and accentuate her waist.

Drew was presenting at the Gala and wore a Gucci 2008 Resort dress with knee length black bubble skirt, white top and black and green straps. The funky and interesting dress was teamed with classic black courts.

The younger stars tried their best, but without years of red carpet experience, they made a few mistakes.

Cutie pie actress Ellen Page (left), the star of new film Juno, looked a little awkward in her satin forest green dress and satin burgandy accessories. The two rich colours together are a bit much and leave her looking like a Christmas tree, while overall the look is a little mumsy for her.

Brittany Snow (middle) kept things simple in a strapless black pencil dress and black peep toes. She tried to jazz things up with the gold embroidery on the dress but it looks a bit lacklustre.

Amanda Bynes (right) also lacked bravery with her floaty little white dress which was quite pretty but maybe a little cheap looking. It could have looked good had she teamed it with better accessories. Her clumpy silver peep toes and studded white clutch just don't look right with this dress!

However, don't lose all hope for the style capabilities of young Hollywood as there were a couple of young starlets proving that some people just have a natural flair for fashion.

Vanessa Hudgens (left) has a flawless style history, and she continued with this black floor length bandeau dress from Mblem by Mandy Moore. As usual Zac was on her arm but her looked very happy to let his girlfriend take the spotlight! She looked so beautiful and classic, with her curly hair swept up to show off her shoulders and her gorgeous long gold cross necklace.

Marion Cotillard (right) also looked great in her nude sequined Chanel Spring 2008 dress with frayed edges and large collar. She wore the dress with sweet black Mary Jane's, smokey eye make-up and simple jewellery.

Brittany Snow Glows in Blue at the 15th Annual Diversity Awards

Tuesday, 20 November 2007

Cutsey actress Brittany Snow matched her outfit to her big blue eyes for the 15th Annual Diversity Awards held at the Globe Theatre yesterday.

The loose dress with tied waist and kimono sleeves looked fab with her gold croc skin heels, gold bracelets and gold nail polish.

It's very similar to the French Connection dress on the left which I adore and can be bought from ASOS for £90. The French Connection dress is in a luxurious velvet material too, perfect for this winter's sumptuous style.

Try a Volumous Skirt

Thursday, 25 October 2007

There are two kinds of skirts to wear this season and they are both total opposites. You can either go for the pencil shape, or the tulip shape, and whilst the classic pencil skirt is proving highly popular, a select few trend setting celebs are standing out in their volumous tulip skirts and looking fab!

Here's why you should try the tulip! :)

Brittany Snow emphasized the drama of a volumous skirt in this blood red, bandeau dress she wore to the 11th Annual Hollywood Awards on Monday. The gorgeous actress looked great with her milky skin and bright blonde hair, looking almost goth like against the strong colour of the dress and her round toe black courts.

Also wearing the style was Jamie Lynn Sigler at the Environmental Media Association Awards in L.A. yesterday in a cream, high-waited tulip skirt with a trendy bow detail and a soft delicate, grey bandeau top. Her fabulous, stacked, burgandy courts added colour and her soft curls made the whole look veyr romantic. She looked beautiful.

Finally is Petra Nemcova, doing the sophisticated version of the volumous skirt in an outfit fit for the office. The stunning model wore a black tulip skirt and tucked in, crisp, white shirt with black court shoes. She added a fun edge to the outfit by folding back the ends of her sleeves, slicking back her hair into a high ponytail and accessorising with a multi-chain, gold necklace.

Ok, now I've got to go sorry, I'm off to buy myself a tulip skirt :)

One I Missed

Sunday, 15 July 2007

Here's Brittany Snow at the Hairspray Los Angeles Premier, which I missed last week, but I had to post it because the colour of this dress is just amazing!

Yellow is the perfect summer colour and Brittany shows how classy and stylish it can look in this amazing dress.

Everything about this outfit looks good, even those crazy black hoop earrings with gold snakes wrapped around them. And again we see another star in chunky gold bracelets.

She kept her make-up simple with juts subtle gold around her eyes and swept her hair back letting the front bits hang loose. I think she looks fab!

We're All Going on a Summer Holiday!

Monday, 9 July 2007

Ok so I don't actually know where actress Brittany Snow is going (or possibly coming from) but she was seen at LAX airport on Saturday looking like she was ready for a day at the beach!

She looks adorable in her turn-up denim shorts, layered white tee and white cardi, blue pumps and bright yellow and white bag. Lose the stupid hat though, these hats ruin loads of good outfits!
