Top 10 Best Dressed - BET Awards 2008!
Monday, 30 June 2008
So last week the 2008 BET Awards were held in L.A., but who were the 10 best dressed celebs in attendance in my opinion?:
At number 10 is plastic rapper Lil' Kim. While her face may be ruined by cosmetic surgery, and her wig is worse than Tyra's, the pencil dress with plunging neckline is actually a pretty sexy fit and the purple colour is on trend.
I like the cute little bow shoes too! Now if only she got a new hairstylist and make-up artist...
Also rocking the purple trend at number 9 was the beautiful Nia Long, in a volumous plum mini dress. I love the draped grecian style, but the excessive volume on the hips isn't all that flattering. The colour however looks amazing on her.
Bringing a touch of glam and bling to the event at number 8 is Ashanti. I suppose she had to make an impact as she is back on the music scene with a new album, and that she did in her black floor-length gown, with thigh high split and sparkly silver chain embellishments.
The Marchesa Fall 2007 dress is a little over the top for me but her black sandals were frigging fantastic! I think a more sublte slit would have improved this look no end.
Alicia Keys is at number 7 because I absolutely love the colour of her strapless pink David Meister dress. The feisty singer teamed the simple dress with black and white Sergio Rossi shoes.

Hip-Hop video vixen's are not usually known for their class, but that's exactly what Angel Lola Luv exuded on the BET Awards Red Carpet last week, landing her at number 6 on my best dressed list.
The curvacious model's body looked stunning in a black dress with fitted bodice and flared skirt with tutu style netting underneath. In any other colour this could look costumey, but in black it looks sophisticated. However, I don't like her drap, flat hair style and the chunky gold necklace is unnecessary.
At number 5 is BET News presenter Danella looking lady like in a beautiful floral black chiffon gown with a plunging halter neck. The dress has the right amount of class and sexiness and the floral print is so fashionable right now.
Bringing some vibrant colour to the occassion at number 4 is the gorgeous Lauren London. Her yellow strapless mini dress looked fashion forward worn with her black Givenchy strappy open toe ankle boots and polka straight long hair.
And so now the top three, at number 3 is Jenece Johnson wearing a salmon pink version of the ever popular Herve Leger dresses with simple silver sandals and silver earrings. Sexy, bright and clean cut. I love it!
At number 2 is Keyshia Cole's stunning performance gown a tie dye chiffon gown with pure white bodice. Her red carpet look was too severe with her cropped hair cute and garish yellow volumous dress, but on stage later on she looked feminine and beautiful with her soft curls and glamorous gown.
The colour combination was beautiful showing that tie dye can be sophisticated and doesn't have to mean hippy!
And finally at number 1 is..................Rihanna! The queen of the red carpet strikes again in an attention grabbing, lemon Giambattista Valli Spring 2008 tiered gown.
The fitted bodice was delicate with its spaghetti straps, subtle frills and deep v-neck while the full-length, tiered skirt was perfect for twirling around the red carpet, as Rihanna did!
The thing that makes this whole look for me was her simple but stunning silver heart pendant, and her short cropped hair do allowed for the dress to take centre stage.
When is someone else gonna step up and take Rihanna's red carpet crown from her??

Monday, 11 February 2008
L-R: Alicia Keys in Armani Prive, Natasha Bedingfield in Reem Acra, Carrie Underwood in Zuhair Murad
So they've all walked the red carpet at the Grammy Awards and now it's time for the rest of us to pick our best and worst dressed!
1. My favourite look of last night's awards was Carrie Underwood's floral Zuhair Murad Spring 2008 gown. It had a beautiful halter neck and and was so pretty and stylish, matched with her purple clutch.
2. My second favourite goes to Alicia Keys who wore a dramatic navy blue high necked Armani Prive gown with a full glamorous train. Her pink lipstick and pink clutch kept the look young and fun.
3. And my third favourite was Brit Natasha Bedingfield (who is very hit or miss in the fashion stakes these days!) who looked like an Old Hollywood icon in her strapless purple Reem Acra Spring 2008 gown. I love the sexy waist belt and her vintage curls.
L-R: Faith Hill in Valentino, Fergie in Calvin Klein, Beyonce in Elie Saab
4. My fourth fav gown was Beyonce's beautiful Elie Saab Spring 2008 strapless ice queen gown. The silver and sky blue gown fitted her curves perfectly, but despite initially liking her new shorter hair, on second glance I think it would have suited the dress better had she worn it up.
5. I put Faith Hill in fifth place for her one shouldered Valentino Spring 2008 gown in classic black (which was one of my fav of the Valentino collection!) which looked sophisticated and sleek.
6. And the last of my favourite gowns goes to Fergie who looked sweet and summery in a strapless yellow Calvin Klein gown. I would have placed her higher but I don't think the gown quite fitted her right. Is is just me??

L-R: Keyshia Cole in Marc Bouwer, Rihanna in Zac Posen, Miley Cyrus in Celine, Corinne Bailey Rae in Luella
Now it is the Grammy's, which is meant to be more fun and young than some of the other award shows, so many starlets chose shorter dresses.
7. My favourite being Rihanna's unusual blue Zac Posen Spring 2008 dress. I love the trendy sheer straps and the feathered skirt, especially with her silver strappies and natural make-up.
8. Miley Cyrus comes in 8th place for her silver and white layered Celine Spring 2007 shift dress. Love the dress, hate the inches of make-up and cheap hair extensions.
9. In 9th place I've chosen Keyshia Cole for her adorable black Marc Bouwer Fall 2007 shift with a cinched in silver waist. Simple but flatterring. It's just ashame about the tattoos!
10. And finally, 10th on my best dressed list is british songstress Corinne Bailey Rae who took a fashion risk that paid off with her blue Luella Spring 2008 that was made out of plastic poppies! Unusual but it looked fab!
Whose did you like and whose did you hate??

Sunday, 10 February 2008
L-R: Ashanti, Fergie, Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood
The 2008 Grammy Awards are tonight and I can't wait! But in the mean while, the hottest pre-Grammy party had to be the one thrown by music mogul Clive Davis in Beverly Hills yesterday!
One of the best dressed in my opinion was Carrie Underwood who looked gorgeous in a black and white layered strapless dress with a black bow worn with strappy black shoes.
I also loved Ashanti's fun and flirty black halter neck dress with a hot pink waist belt and matching pink peep toes. Unfortunatley Ashanti's hair ruined the look as it looked like she'd left in a curler or something!?
The American Idol girls continued to do well with Jordin Sparks looking great in a leopard print shift dress with a black waist band that defined her waist and gave her a fantastic shape.
And finally, looking amazing in colour was Fergie-licious in a feminine purple gown with an artistic floral print. I do love when Fergie sports pretty, softer looks to counteract her scary eyebrows and hard face! Mean, I know.
L-R: Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, Dita Von Teese and Zhang Ziyi
I also thought Alica Keys looked lovely in a strapless cream and brown spotty gown, especially with her sleek straight hair.
Also in a neutral colour was Taylor Swift who went simple in a strappy cream babydoll dress which I think would have looked better with better shoes and less make-up.
Dita Von Teese stuck to her signature look in a gorgeous white Christian Dior Spring 2008 suit with beading and flower detail and finally the daring Zhang Ziyi looked surprisingly good in an unusual yellow dress. I think the matching yellow shoes are a step too far though!

Links to this post Email this postOMG I Spot a Trend! - Leather Jackets
Sunday, 25 November 2007
Leather was a huge trend on the Autumn/Winter catwalks and celebrities Alicia Keys (left), Kylie Minogue (middle) and Lindsay Lohan (right) are all doing biker chic right now in their cool leather jackets.
Alicia's look is clean and classic with black, boot-cut trousers, a white t-shirt with silver detailing, a big black and silver belt and of course, her leather jacket thrown over the top. Her jacket is in a funky bomber jacket style and an on trend burgandy colour for a bit of brightness. Love it! Alicia wore it whilst performing for the Writers Guild of America in support of their strike on Tuesday.

Kylie also proved that leather doesn't have to mean black or brown, in her bright yellow classic styled leather jacket, that she wore yesterday as she exited her hotel in Paris. She teamed the jacket with along navy and grey stroped t-shirt, black leggins and black leather boots.

Finally, Lindsay opted to wear her leather jacket in classic black and in a cropped style with cropped sleeves. This is my fav and most wearable look of them all. She wore it over a fitted black vest, skinny jeans, black leather boots and a long silver neclace in NYC on Wednesday. Rockstar!

So who owns a leather/leather look jacket??

Sunday, 30 September 2007
Alicia Keys has been everywhere this past week as her new single No One is out and her album is due for release soon. And with a new album comes a new look. Alicia is looking more stylish, more ladylike and more glam than ever.
First Alicia was on BET's 106 & Park on Tuesday looking gorgeous in grey skinny jeans, a glossy green top and hawwwt silver court shoes! Her hair looked really lovely, straightened out and long for a change (though I do love her curls too!). I love that Alicia embraces her curves and isn't afraid to show them off.

The following day, on Wednesday, Alicia attended the National Recording Academy New York Chapter where she was honoured for her contribution to the world of music. She wowed the paparazzi on the red carpet in high waisted black trousers and an unusal white shirt. I liked her very funky white high heels with steel toe caps, but I think the black and white gloves were one step too far. Unusual style is good, weird is not.

And then to round the week up, Alicia was at the Apollo Theatre yesterday for the Clinton Global Initiative (I love celebs supporting good causes!), looking casual but sexy in fitted jeans that were tucked into brown knee high boots, and a stylish brown leather jacket. This time she let her hair fall into natural curls and wore lovely dangly gold earrings.

Seventeen magazine celebrated Back-to-School yesterday, and they had their newest cover girl, Ashlee Simpson, on hand to help out and look fab. She wore a really great looking black shirt dress with black leggins and dark red court shoes, as well as a long necklace which completed the look. If only she would lose that ridiculous trilby she would have looked even more amazing!

First we have a preggers Christina Aguilera shopping for light fixtures in Beverly Hills. I guess it's that nesting thing! She looks great in her jeans, long white cardi and flat silver pumps, plus that striped blue vest is adorable. As usual, as part of her signature look Christina sports a splash of red in the shape of her cute bag and lipstick.

Here we have Hilary Duff, seen visiting Neil George Salon in Hollywood last week, just an hour after her ex Joel Madden and his pregnant girlfriend Nicole Richie had left, close shave! If she'd bumped into them though, at least she would have looked great in her signature leggins and long black top/dress, with cute black round toe courts and a red beaded necklace.
Next is the beautiful and always lovely Alicia Keys, being very risky in the style stakes at the screening of her new movie The Nanny Diaries in NYC on Monday. She chose a very unusual leopard print, knee length dress and electric blue heels with her curly hair worn half up-half down and dangly gold earrings. I must say, this look won't be everyone's taste but I do love when celebs spice it up style wise and wear something that not many people would try, cos after all, fashion is meant to be fun!I like it though, it has a very 80s vibe but the dress is also very flattering and Alicia is pretty enough to pull most things off!

Here's a great look I missed from the El Cantante LA premier at the end of last month - Eva Longoria with her newly chopped locks in a stylish short beige dress. I love all the detailing n the dress, the colour looks great on her, and the sparkly gold accessories (belt, bag, shoes) are hot!
Finally we have someone who seems to be very popular with readers of this blog - Vanessa Hudgens! I understand why too, because for someone so young, her taste is impeccable. Here she's pictured outside her hotel room in NYC earlier this month wearing such a beautiful outfit.
The red top is so so pretty and possibly the nicest top I've seen in a while, and the grey skinny jeans and unusual red shoes make the look a little edgier. Her hair is beautiful and glossy, her skin is perfect - damn I'm jealous! Lol.

Links to this post Email this postThe Nominees For Most Stylish Singer Part 1
Sunday, 29 July 2007
Well since I have a poll going to see who you guys think is the most stylish singer and yesterday I posted two photos of one of the nominees (Amerie) I thought it only fair that you get some recent pictures of the other singers in Part 1 of the poll.
Let's start with Brandy. Unfortunatly Brandy isn't seen out and about all that much at the moment so this picture is from June 25th of this year when she was at the BET Awards Pre-Party. I think this dress is so cute and flirty though and the gold heels look fab.
For more pics of Brandy
Next we have Beyonce doing some good at the Houston Food Bank on July 24th and looking hot while she's helping! Her voluptuous figure looks amazing in these highwaisted jeans (a better option than highwaisted shorts for us curvy girls!) and she looks super cool teaming it with this diamante encrusted black t-shirt. Casual and sexy.

Here we have Ashlee Simpson out for dinner with boyfriend Pete Wentz in Los Angeles on July 9th looking a little more dressed up than usual but still as laid-back and cool as ever. Ashlee can dress a little tomboyish a lot of the time but this pic shows that she knows how to dress feminine and stylish when needed. This shirt dress is bang on trend and the tie around the waist gives her an amzing shape. The colour and pattern stop it from being too girly for Ash.For more pics of Ashlee
Finally, Alicia Keys has no votes in the poll yet so I wanted to remind you all that while sometimes she does make fashion blunders, she can get it oh so right! Here she is in the UK this month looking gorgeous and fashionable. She's teamed this smart, structured, cream waistcoat with a tatty looking rock t-shirt for a great contrast and added some amazingly unique earrings. Links to this post Email this postAlicia Rocks the Earth!
Tuesday, 10 July 2007

The beautiful and talented Alicia Keys performed at the Live Earth Concert in New Jersey on Saturday and she was absolutely amazing! I watched it on TV and Alicia was my favourite performer of the night, and she looked stunning too.
She wore two different dresses. The first, a high necked LBD which was fitted at the top and then flared out, was teamed with silver pee toe shoes and chunky silver bracelets.
Next she wore a hot pink, very fitted, mini dress, with brown peep toe Mary Janes.
I think both dresses looked fab on her but I would recommend losing the weird fish net tights in future!
Her hair also looked great in long loose curls.
So which dress do you prefer?
